The Cream That Helps Me Fake A Good Night’s Sleep

vichy idealia skin sleep

Oh man, I could SO do with some sleep right now.

Between moving house (again!), work, and family finally visiting, the last couple of weeks have been totally non-stop. I hardly slept a wink, often working into the wee hours of the morning to get everything done in time. I somehow made it through each day feeling like a zombie. But, I didn’t look like one.

If I managed to look decent on a few hours of sleep, it’s because of Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep, which is especially formulated for poor sleepers. Its secret? Hydration.

If you’ve been reading my blog regularly, you know that since discovering the wonders of Korean skincare, I realised how important, yet terribly underrated, hydration is for the skin. I know I said it many times, but, when skin is properly hydrated, it looks healthy. It’s softer to the touch, looks plumper and smoother, and radiates a natural glow.

Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep contains sodium hyaluronate, a clever little molecule that attracts, and binds to the skin, up to 1000 times its weight in water! Skin can hardly get more hydrated than that. Sweet almond oil helps make sure all this moisture isn’t going anywhere by creating a protective barrier that locks it in.

Then, there’s niacinamide. This one, too, can increase skin’s moisture level and improve barrier function, which is scientists’ way of saying, it keeps your skin hydrated and soft. Niacinamide can also fight dullness, helps treat wrinkles, soothe rosacea, and bust acne. So, no matter what you’re dealing with, it can help.

I was a bit less thrilled to see alcohol in the formula. This study says it doesn’t irritate skin. Some experts, like Paula Begoun, believe it’s one of the worst things you can put on your skin. Basically, the jury’s still out there. I think that, when properly formulated, and used together with plenty of emollients and antioxidants, alcohol isn’t that big an issue.

And Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep contains plenty of emollients. Sadly, it severely lacks antioxidants. *sighs* Why is it so difficult to find a moisturizer that contains everything skin needs?

Moving on… How does it perform? Well, as I mentioned, hydration really does wonders for the skin. I applied the cream, which has a fast-absorbing gel-like consistency at night, and in the morning, I woke up with luminous, softer, and supple skin.

It didn’t do much for my dark circles, so, without a good concealer, they’d still scream to the world that I am barely sleeping at the moment, but the rest of my face looked fresh and rested. I’m also happy to report it didn’t make me breakout.

Let’s see what else I like. Oh, the pink colour. Both the packaging and the cream itself are a lovely shade of pink. I also like the jar has a mirror on top. So handy! Of course, I’d rather this stuff came in a tube, but that’s not much here that can be spoiled anyway, so a jar works fine, I guess.

One last thing. Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep has a subtle and fresh floral scent. It’s pleasant enough, but, as we know, fragrances can cause irritations in some people. So, if your skin is sensitive, this is something to keep in mind.

So, yes, if you too aren’t sleeping much, a hydrating cream like Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep can help. Just, don’t forget to apply your antioxidant rich serum beforehand!

I’ve using the serum from this line in the mornings, and I love it. And, yes, as you’ve said I need MORE (or at least some) sleep #IfOnly
PS. Good luck with moving houses.

Marina, good to know the serum is good, too. May have to check it out. 🙂

Thanks hun. This was the most stressful move ever, but now it’s finally done. Now I need some serious sleep, too!
