MyChelle Sunscreen Reviews

Look, I’ve been burned by enough “natural” sunscreens to have trust issues. You know the type: they promise reef-friendly protection and leave you looking like you robbed a bakery and face-planted into the flour bin. Or they feel so greasy you could fry an egg on your forehead. In this MyChelle sunscreen review, we’ll see if they’re any different. They’re promising broad-spectrum protection, reef-friendly formulas, and some magical “nourishment” that works for all skin types. Do they protect your skin without turning you into a ghost? Do they feel decent or do they pill up like cheap fabric? And most importantly, is MyChelle products worth your money or should you save your cash for something that actually works? Let’s dig in.

MyCHELLE Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 Non-Tinted ($27.99)

This is their flagship liquid sunscreen and honestly, it’s a mixed bag that really depends on your skin type. The texture is lightweight and it actually absorbs without sitting on top of your skin like a wet blanket, which is rare for a 100% zinc oxide formula at 20.5% concentration. It dries down to a genuinely matte finish, which is great if you’re oily or combination, but if you’re dry you might feel like your face is being slowly mummified. The formula uses safflower oleosomes as the delivery system which helps it spread better than most mineral sunscreens, and there’s raspberry seed oil in there for some antioxidant action. It can pill if you layer too much skincare underneath it, and while it’s supposed to be non-tinted, it can leave a slight cast on deeper skin tones. It’s water-resistant but not waterproof, so if you’re sweating buckets you’ll need to reapply. For $27.99, it’s decent if your skin tolerates it, but I’d grab a sample first before committing.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 20.5%
Benefits: Broad-spectrum SPF, matte finish, absorbs relatively quickly for mineral sunscreen, reef-safe
Cons: Can pill with other products, potentially drying on dry skin, slight white cast possible, love-it-or-hate-it formula
Best For: Oily to combination skin
Fragrance-Free: Yes

MyCHELLE Sun Shield Stick SPF 50 ($14.99)

If you need touch-ups on the go or you’re dealing with kids who won’t sit still, this stick is actually pretty convenient. It’s got 17% zinc oxide so you’re getting solid protection, and it’s water-resistant for 80 minutes which means it’ll survive your sweaty commute or pool time. The formula glides on smoothly because it’s packed with emollient oils (avocado, jojoba, shea butter, cocoa butter) which makes it moisturizing but also means it’s not going to dry down completely matte. If your skin is oily, this can feel waxy or heavy, like you’re wearing an actual shield on their face. It uses beeswax as the base so it’s not vegan, and while it says it “dries clear,” you’ll need to blend it in or you’ll have visible streaks. The price is right at $14.99 and the size is TSA-friendly, but this is really better for spot application or body use than full-face coverage unless you don’t mind the texture.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 17%
Benefits: Water-resistant 80 minutes, portable, moisturizing oils, reef-safe
Cons: Waxy feel, sits on top of skin, requires blending, not vegan (contains beeswax), can feel heavy
Best For: All skin types for spot application; better for body than face
Fragrance-Free: Yes

MyCHELLE 3-in-1 Super Serum ($28.00)

This is MyChelle’s attempt at making a tinted serum-meets-SPF hybrid, and it’s actually pretty smart if you want to streamline your routine. It’s got 16.2% zinc oxide which gives you SPF 30 protection, plus hyaluronic acid and squalane for hydration, so theoretically you’re getting sunscreen, serum, and light coverage in one bottle. The texture is more liquidy than most tinted sunscreens which makes it blend easier, and it comes in three shades (Light, Light/Medium, Medium/Dark) so you’ve got options. The finish is described as “dewy” which means if you’re oily, you’ll probably feel greasy by noon and need powder. The bentonite clay in there is supposed to absorb excess oil but honestly, it’s not enough to combat the squalane if your skin is already pumping out sebum. For dry skin though? This could work beautifully because it’s genuinely hydrating. The coverage is sheer – don’t expect this to cover anything major – but it evens out skin tone and gives you that “I woke up like this” glow.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 16.2%
Benefits: Combines SPF + hydration + sheer tint, hyaluronic acid and squalane for moisture, lightweight texture, three shade options
Cons: SPF 30 is lower than ideal, dewy finish can be too much for oily skin, sheer coverage only, reapplication messes up makeup
Best For: Dry to normal skin wanting minimal coverage
Fragrance-Free: Yes

MyCHELLE Replenishing Solar Defense Body Lotion SPF 50 ($32.99)

Finally, a body sunscreen that doesn’t feel like you’re spreading spackling paste on yourself. This is 21% zinc oxide which is beefy protection, and it’s actually formulated to feel more like a body lotion than a sunscreen, which is exactly what you want. It’s got coconut oil and shea butter so it’s moisturizing without being disgustingly greasy, and it melts into skin pretty well for a mineral formula. The hyaluronic acid helps with hydration and the formula is water-resistant for 80 minutes. But here’s the reality check – at $32.99 for 6 oz, this is expensive for body sunscreen. You’re supposed to use a shot glass worth of sunscreen for your whole body, which means this bottle is lasting you maybe 5-6 applications if you’re doing it right. The formula itself is solid – no white cast, absorbs decently, doesn’t smell weird – but the price makes this a luxury item when there are cheaper body sunscreens that work just as well.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 21%
Benefits: High SPF 50 protection, moisturizing with coconut oil and shea butter, minimal white cast, water-resistant 80 minutes, reef-safe
Cons: Expensive ($32.99 for 6 oz), won’t last long with proper application, not practical for regular body use
Best For: All skin types, better for face than body due to price
Fragrance-Free: Technically yes (contains vanillin which adds scent but isn’t traditional fragrance)

MyCHELLE Sun Shield Clear Spray SPF 30 ($21.99)

Spray sunscreens are convenient but they’re also tricky because most people don’t apply enough and end up with patchy protection. This one has 12% zinc oxide which is on the lower end – that’s why it’s only SPF 30 – and it’s water-resistant for 80 minutes. The spray mechanism makes it quick to apply and it’s got safflower seed oil and bentonite clay to balance moisture and oil control. But here’s what you need to know: you cannot spray this directly on your face. You have to spray it into your hands and then apply, which kind of defeats the whole “convenient spray” thing. And like all spray sunscreens, you need to be really generous and rub it in to make sure you’re getting even coverage (and very often you’ll miss spots because you can’t see the damn thing!). The formula is fine – not sticky, absorbs reasonably well – but the lower SPF means you’re reapplying more often. This is better as a supplementary sunscreen for reapplication on your body rather than your main protection. If you’re using it for face application specifically, just buy a regular liquid sunscreen and save yourself the hassle.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 12%
Benefits: Convenient spray application, water-resistant 80 minutes, contains safflower seed oil for moisture, reef-safe
Cons: Lower SPF 30, can’t spray directly on face, requires rubbing in for even coverage, will go through quickly with proper use
Best For: Body reapplication, not ideal for primary face protection
Fragrance-Free: Technically yes (contains vanillin for scent)

MyCHELLE Sun Shield SPF 28 Unscented ($25.99)

This is their basic, no-frills daily face sunscreen and it’s very much a “your mileage may vary” situation. It uses both zinc oxide (11.6%) and titanium dioxide (0.67%) which gives you broad-spectrum protection, and the SPF 28 is close enough to SPF 30 that it’s fine for daily use. The formula has aloe and vitamin E which are soothing, and it’s genuinely unscented – no essential oils, no fragrance, nothing. It absorbs quickly and dries matte which is great for oily skin, but this is where the problems start. It pills, especially around the nose and mouth, and it can be drying if your skin isn’t properly moisturized underneath. It’s also finicky about layering – if you put too much skincare underneath, it turns into a flaky mess. If you wear makeup over it, it can look cakey. On the flip side, if your skin is oily and you keep your routine minimal, this might work perfectly fine.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 11.6%, Titanium Dioxide 0.67%
Benefits: Truly unscented, quick absorption, matte finish, contains soothing aloe and vitamin E, reef-safe
Cons: Pills on many people (especially around nose/mouth), can be drying, difficult to layer with other products, makeup can look cakey over it
Best For: Oily skin with minimal skincare routine
Fragrance-Free: Yes

The Bottom Line

Here’s the deal with MyChelle – they’re legitimately reef-safe and clean, but “natural” doesn’t mean “works for everyone.” Mineral sunscreens are just harder to formulate well. Zinc oxide wants to sit on your skin and leave a white cast, and when brands try to fix that, they create new problems like pilling or greasiness. MyChelle does a decent job considering these limitations, but you need to know your skin type before buying. Oily skin? Some formulas will work great. Dry skin? Others will feel like sandpaper. The pricing is all over the place too – some are reasonable, others feel expensive for how fast you’ll go through them. If you’re committed to mineral sunscreens and willing to experiment, MyChelle is worth trying. Just grab samples when possible and be prepared for trial and error. Your skin might love them, or you might rage-quit mineral sunscreen entirely.
