Kopari Sunscreen Review

So you’ve probably seen Kopari sunscreens all over Instagram, right? The pretty packaging, the coconut obsession, the whole “clean beauty” vibe. But here’s what you actually want to know: does this stuff work, or is it just another overhyped brand trading on aesthetics? That’s where this Kopari sunscreen review comes in. I’m cutting through the marketing BS and telling you exactly what you’re getting with each product in their lineup. Because yeah, we’re reviewing all the Kopari sunscreens: the face formulas, the body options, the tinted stuff, everything. I want you to know which ones are worth including into your skincare routine and which ones you can skip without FOMO.

About The Brand: Kopari

Kopari popped up in 2015 thanks to beauty lovers Kiana Cabell and Gigi Goldman, who had this wild idea that to make coconut oil in skincare sexy again. And that’s what they launched: straight-up coconut oil, repackaged for your bathroom instead of your pantry. And people ate it up. Turns out there was a whole market of humans ready to slather coconut oil all over themselves if you made it look pretty enough. Once they proved coconut oil could sell, they went all in. Body butter? Coconut. Deodorant? Coconut. Lip balm? You guessed it. They became the coconut brand, and honestly, it was working for them.

The big turning point came in 2017 when Sephora picked them up. That’s when they went from cute little indie brand to actually legit. Ulta followed, then Target. Suddenly Kopari was everywhere, riding the clean beauty wave that was taking over the industry. Their whole vegan, cruelty-free, no-bad-stuff angle fit perfectly with what people wanted. Fast forward to 2019-2020, and they started getting a bit more ambitious. Still coconut-obsessed, but they began launching beauty products that weren’t entirely coconut-based. Including sunscreen, which makes total sense when your entire brand aesthetic screams “tropical beach vacation.” Their sunscreens came out as mineral formulas: reef-safe, coconut oil inside, promising they wouldn’t turn you into a white-faced mime. All very on-brand for them.

Kopari Bright As Day Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 ($38.00)

This is Kopari’s daily face sunscreen and honestly, it’s pretty solid. It’s 100% mineral with zinc oxide, so if you’ve got sensitive skin, this won’t mess with you. The texture’s really nice, kind of between a gel and a serum. Spreads easily, doesn’t feel heavy. And here’s the impressive part: no white cast. For a mineral sunscreen, that’s huge. This slight shimmer creates that glassy skin finish tthat makes you look glowy, like you actually got some sleep.  There’s also niacinamide to even things out (the brand says it has Vitamin C too, but I don’t see it on the full ingredient list. It’s probably in one of the natural extract, so it won’t do anything for your skin). The full ingredients list includes titanium dioxide and iron oxides for the shimmer, plus tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E). It’s hydrating enough that if your skin’s not super dry, you might skip moisturizer under it. The subtle sheen might be too warm if you’re really pale, but it works on most skin tones.

Active ingredients: Zinc oxide (mineral UV filter) and Niacinamide.

Benefits: No white cast, works under makeup, gives subtle glow, hydrating, reef-safe, good for sensitive skin.

Cons: The shimmer won’t work for everyone; might be too warm-toned for very fair skin.

Skin types: All skin types, especially good for sensitive.

Fragrance-free: Yes.

Kopari Sunglaze Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen SPF 42 ($39.00)

Tthis is where Kopari gets into the shimmery body sunscreen game. It’s a spray with rose gold shimmer that’s supposed to give you that glazed, glowy look everyone’s obsessed with on Instagram. The spray itself is fine and easy to use. You do need to rub it in after spraying, but it dries fast and doesn’t leave you sticky. The shimmer’s actually pretty subtle. You look glowy, not like a disco ball. Smells like coconut milk, very beachy. Here’s where I have issues: SPF 30 from a spray is not enough protection from the sun’s rays on its own. Spray sunscreens are notoriously hard to apply properly because you can’t see if you’re getting even coverage, and you need a lot of product for proper sun protection (most people don’t use nearly enough).  If you want to use this, layer it over a real SPF 50 body sunscreen. Or be prepared to spray a ton of product and reapply every hour. Really, this is more of a glow product that happens to have some SPF than actual sun protection. Fine for adding shimmer or topping up your look throughout the day. Not so fine as your main defense against UV damage.

Active ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 0.5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 10%, and Hyaluronic Acid.

Benefits: Easy spray application, gives dewy look with a glowy finish, water-resistant 80 minutes, hydrating, fast-drying.

Cons: Only SPF 30, mist makes it hard to apply enough product, shimmer won’t work for everyone.

Skin types: All skin types.

Fragrance-free: No.

Kopari Sunglaze Sheer Setting Mist Sunscreen SPF 50 ($39.00)

This one’s designed to go over makeup. SPF 50 face mist that’s supposed to set everything while giving you sun protection. Sounds great in theory. The mist is super fine and won’t wreck your makeup if you do it right. No white cast, no grease, just a bit of glow. It’s got hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid (which holds even more water than regular HA) so it’s actually hydrating. The melon scent is okay if you’re into that. But here’s the problem everyone’s complaining about: it stings your eyes. Like, badly. You have to close your eyes, spray, and keep them shut for at least 15 seconds while it dries down. Still doesn’t always help. The alcohol in the formula probably doesn’t help, especially if your skin’s sensitive. Also, and this is important, you cannot rely on a face mist as your only SPF. It’s impossible to apply enough product from a setting spray to get the full SPF 50 protection the label promises. This works for topping up throughout the day over a proper base sunscreen. That’s it. Don’t use this as your main protection and then wonder why you burned. Plus, it has too many citrus fragrance oils that could irritate sensitive skin.

Active ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 0.5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 10% and Hyaluronic Acid.

Benefits: Sets makeup, easy to reapply, gives radiant glow, lightweight, water-resistant 40 minutes.

Cons: Stings eyes badly, alcohol content can be drying, hard to apply enough for full protection, strong scent.

Skin types: Best for dry skin.

Fragrance-free: Technically yes, but it has essential oils (lime, orange, spearmint) that make it smell like lemon – and could potentially irritate sensitive skin.

Kopari Golden Sunglaze Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen SPF 50 ($39.00)

Same concept as the rose gold version but with golden shimmer that gives you that sun-kissed vibe without making you look like a walking highlighter. Formula’s lightweight, dries quickly, has hyaluronic acid in for extra hydration and that radiant finish. It’s easy to spray on, but again, SPF 30 from a mist is sketchy as your only protection. You’d need to layer this over actual broad-spectrum protection sunscreen with higher SPF, or you’re stuck reapplying every hour like it’s your full-time job. And depending on your skin, this can feel greasy and rub off on everything you touch before it fully sinks in. If you’re already oily, good luck. Basically, treat this like a body glow product that happens to have some SPF thrown in. It’ll make your skin look great for photos, but it’s not keeping you safe from UV damage unless you’ve got real protection underneath.

Active ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 0.5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 10% and Hyaluronic Acid.

Benefits: Golden shimmer gives glow, easy spray, fast-drying, hydrating.

Cons: Only SPF 30, can be oily/greasy on some people, transfers to clothes.

Skin types: All skin types but might be too oily for some

Fragrance-free: No

Kopari Rose Gold Sun Shield Body Glow Sunscreen SPF 45 ($42.00)

This one’s a gel formula with rose gold shimmer and SPF 45. It’s loaded with moisturising oils like macadamia and coconut that deeply nourish skin, yet the texture is surprisingly lightweight and absorbs quickly. It gives you that glossy, glazed look without making you look like you dumped glitter all over yourself. The shimmer’s subtle enough that you just look healthy and glowy. All those oils are fantastic if you have dry skin, but if you’re already dealing with oily skin this is probably gonna feel too heavy and greasy. It also has this annoying habit of transferring onto your clothes before it fully sinks in, so don’t throw your shirt on right away or you’ll have rose gold streaks everywhere. The gel format’s way better than the spray versions because you can actually see where you’re putting it and control how much you’re using. That matters when you’re trying to get proper sun protection.

Active ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 10%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 10%, Macadamia Oil and Coconut Oil.

Benefits: Gel texture is easier to control, rose gold shimmer gives soft glow, very moisturizing, smells good, water-resistant 40 minutes.

Cons: Can transfer to clothes, might be too oily for some.

Skin types: Best for normal to dry skin.

Fragrance-free: No.

Kopari Pure Protect Mineral Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+ ($29.00)

This is their mineral sunscreen stick with 23.8% zinc oxide, which is a really high concentration that delivers solid protection. The stick format makes reapplication easy throughout the day without getting your hands messy. Despite being 100% mineral, it’s got argan oil, shea butter, and bisabolol in there to keep it from feeling chalky and drying like a lot of mineral sunscreens do. It applies sheer with no white cast, which is actually impressive considering how much zinc is packed in there. It’s also fragrance-free, making it a good option for sensitive skin. The catch is that if you have very dry skin, this can feel drying by the end of the day. It also doesn’t layer well over heavy moisturizers because it can pill or not blend properly. Works better if you apply it over lighter products or on bare skin.

Active ingredients: Zinc oxide 23.8% (mineral UV filter) and sunflower oil.

Benefits: High SPF 50, no white cast, convenient stick format, good for sensitive skin, reef-safe, fragrance-free.

Cons: Can be drying for very dry skin, doesn’t layer well over heavy moisturizers, small size.

Skin types: All skin types, especially sensitive skin but might be drying if you’re very dry.

Fragrance-free: Yes

FAQs

Is Kopari the best sunscreen for daily use?

Depends what you need. If you want mineral without looking like a ghost, Bright As Day or the stick are solid. If you want shimmer and glow, the body mists work. But there’s no such thing as one “best SPF” because everyone’s skin is different and you’re doing different things. If you’re spending all day outside in direct sun, most of these aren’t strong enough anyway.

How much product do I actually need to use?

Way more than you’re probably using. Your face needs about a quarter teaspoon, your body needs a shot glass worth. With sprays, most people barely use enough because you can’t see how much is actually going on your skin. That’s why people burn even when they think they applied sunscreen properly. It wasn’t enough for the level of sun exposure they’re getting.

Do these fight free radicals and environmental stressors?

Most have some antioxidants, like vitamin E and asthanxanthin (it’s what gives salmon and flamingos their pinkish hue) which helps with free radicals and pollution damage. Nice bonus, as they can help neutralise free radicals damage. But you’d still need an antioxidant serum.

The Bottom Line

Kopari makes pretty sunscreens that smell good and give you glow. If that’s what you want, they deliver. The shimmer formulas look great in photos and the coconut scent is nice. But most of these aren’t strong enough for serious sun time. The sprays are hard to apply properly, the SPF levels are too low, and that viral setting mist stings like hell. The two that actually work as real sunscreen are Bright As Day and the Pure Protect stick. Both are mineral, both apply well, no white cast. Use those if you want protection. Use the shimmer ones for glow but layer them over actual sunscreen. Kopari’s better at making you look good than keeping you safe from UV damage. Know what you’re buying.
