Face powders are an important last step in a makeup routine, but also one that a lot of people ignore (I know I did when I was younger!). Powders can come in pressed or loose form. Loose ones are usually lighter and so look more natural on the skin. But they are also hard to travel around with. For touch-ups on the go, pressed powders are definitely better and they usually offer better coverage.
Personally, I use both types depending on what finish and coverage I want on the day. Although I have to admit that there are days when I’m too lazy to use it and then regret it. That’s because when I do, I find my skin looks a lot better when I wear it (unless I apply too much, then it looks cakey!). Here’s what powder can do for you:
1. Powders even out the skintone
Powders can be worn both with or without foundation, depending on how good your skin is and what coverage you want. They even out the skintone, make skin look smoother, flawless and polished.
2. Powders make makeup last longer
Powders should be applied last because they prevent makeup from fading, disappearing and slipping away, so that it lasts longer and you won’t have to constantly retouch it.
3. Powders absorb oil
Powders (not even mineral ones) don’t have moisturizing properties, they have absorbent ones. They can absorb excess oil and prevent shine so that’s why they are recommended for those with oily skin types. In addition, some powders can also mattify skin. If that’s the finish you’re looking for, using those powders can help greatly.
4. Powders can fix makeup
Face powders work well at correcting some makeup mistakes. Have you applied too much blush? Dust some powder on it to tone it down. Is your foundation too dark for your skin? Applying a lighter-coloured powder on top will correct the shade.
See how useful powders are? So if you’re thinking of skipping this step, think again and dust some powder on your face!
Do you use a face powder every time you wear makeup?
