Noxzema Ultimate Clear Anti-Blemish Pads are the skincare equivalent of a throwback playlist. They’ve been around forever, they smell aggressively medicinal, and they still have a loyal following. The appeal is obvious: 90 pre-soaked pads, 2% salicylic acid, a cheap price tag and zero faffing around. Swipe one over your face and call it a day.
But acne skincare has moved on a lot since these became popular, and this formula is still very old-school: salicylic acid, yes… but also plenty of alcohol, menthol, eucalyptus and fragrance. So, are Noxzema Acne Pads still worth using in 2026? I tried them to find out. They did help with clogged pores and little breakouts, but there’s definitely a catch.
The Verdict
My rating: 3.5/5
Best for: Oily, acne-prone skin dealing with blackheads, clogged pores and small breakouts.
Skip it if: Your skin is dry, sensitive or already irritated. This formula does not believe in being gentle.
What I like: You get 2% salicylic acid, 90 ridiculously convenient pads and, most importantly, they actually help keep my pores clearer and little breakouts under control.
What I don’t: The alcohol, menthol, eucalyptus and fragrance are doing way too much. They smell strong, they tingle like mad and they can dry my skin out if I get overenthusiastic.
Bottom line: Noxzema Ultimate Clear Anti-Blemish Pads are old-school as hell, but they work. The 2% salicylic acid does a great job at keeping clogged pores and small breakouts in check, and the pads couldn’t be easier to use. I just wish Noxzema would ditch some of the unnecessary tingly stuff and let the salicylic acid get on with its job.
Ingredients In Noxzema Ultimate Clear Anti-Blemish Pads: What Does Science Say?
Salicylic Acid: The Acne-Fighter
Salicylic acid is the best active ingredient for blackheads, whiteheads and clogged pores. It exfoliates inside the pores, helping get rid of the dead skin cells and excess oil that are clogging them up in the first place. Studies on acne pads containing 0.5% and 2% salicylic acid found they helped reduce acne, especially clogged pores. Noxzema uses 2% salicylic acid, which is a good amount.
There’s also research showing that salicylic acid can help reduce oil production and inflammation, which gives it another advantage if you’re dealing with oily, acne-prone skin. Acne is an inflammatory disease after all.

Alcohol Denat.: Helpul Or Drying?
Then we get to Alcohol Denat., which is the first inactive ingredient in the formula. Now, alcohol isn’t automatically bad for skin. It helps ingredients dissolve, makes formulas dry quickly and can make oily skin feel less greasy. But it can also be drying, depending on how much is used and what else is in the formula.
That’s why I wouldn’t look at alcohol and immediately throw the product in the bin. But I’m also not thrilled to see it this high up in an acne treatment that already contains 2% salicylic acid. If your skin is very oily, you may have no problem with it. If it’s dry, sensitive or already irritated from acne treatments, this formula may be too much. And if you get a burning sensation, you now know why.
Menthol, Camphor + Eucalyptus Oil: All Tingle, No Extra Acne-Fighting Powers
Noxzema also contains menthol, camphor and eucalyptus oil. These are largely responsible for that cooling, tingling feeling Noxzema is famous for. And I get the appeal. When you have a breakout, feeling something tingle can make you think, “Yep, this stuff is really working.” Except the tingle isn’t what’s clearing your current pimple breakouts.
Salicylic acid is doing that. Menthol, camphor and eucalyptus don’t make it better at unclogging your pores. What they can do is irritate skin. Essential oils are notorious for causing contact dermatitis in sensitive skin. That doesn’t mean they’re going to irritate everyone who uses these pads. It won’t. But it will irritate some people and I just don’t see what it brings to an acne treatment apart from making you feel like something dramatic is happening.
My Experience With Noxzema Ultimate Clear Anti-Blemish Pads
These are about as old-school as acne treatments get. You get 90 pre-soaked pads in a plastic tub, and they couldn’t be easier to use. Grab one, swipe it over your face and you’re done. The pads are a little textured and slightly rough, but not enough to bother me. The smell, though? Strong. Very medicated, very eucalyptus, very “yep, this is definitely Noxzema”. If you hate heavily scented skincare, you’re going to notice it immediately.
They also give my skin that cooling, tingly feeling Noxzema is famous for. I personally don’t like it. It does nothing for my skin and it could cause irritation for some people. What I actually like is how quickly they get rid of excess oil and how fresh my skin feels afterwards. With regular use, I noticed fewer clogged pores and fewer little breakouts, which is exactly what I want from a 2% salicylic acid treatment.
FYI, salicylic acid is something you need to keep using even after your skin has cleared up. Otherwise, hello future breakouts! The only problem with this salicylic acid pads? They can be drying if I get too enthusiastic with them. Once every other night is plenty for me. Any more than that and my skin starts letting me know. For the same reason, I never use these on nights I use retinoids or other exfoliating acids. That can lead to dryness and irritation too.
