You’ve probably heard HoliFrog talk a big game – they claim they’ve got a clinically-driven solution for every skin situation – but what does that actually mean when what we’re talking about is something as basic and essential as a cleanser? If you’re like most people who’ve struggled with tight, dry skin after washing, breakouts every time you try a “gentle” cleanser, or the creeping suspicion that your expensive products aren’t actually doing anything good, you’ll want to know if HoliFrog cleansers lineup is real skincare or just pretty branding.
Because your skin type is your skin type and unless you’re messing with your skin really badly, you’re not going to have dry skin one day and oily skin the next, know what I mean? In this Holifrog cleanser review, I’m going to cut through the marketing and share how these products perform on real skin in real routines – not just in glossy Instagram ads.

HoliFrog Tashmoo Hydrating Water Lily Milky Wash ($36.00)
Tashmoo Water Lily Milky Wash is like that soft hoodie you throw on when your skin’s acting like a drama queen. It’s milky, it’s creamy, it doesn’t foam like a bubble bath, and honestly, that’s kind of the point – it’s not trying to strip you down to paper-thin dryness. If your skin gets tight or flakey with most “gentle” cleansers, this one actually soothes that feeling. It feels like it’s just… sliding over your face, washing off the day without freaking out your skin barrier. But fair warning: if you’re the type who loves a foamy, squeaky-clean vibe, this will feel weirdly soft and almost lazy. Like, “Did I actually wash my face?” But yes, you did. And your skin doesn’t hate you for it.
It’s hydrating without being heavy or greasy. You could use this morning and night and not worry about your skin feeling stripped, but it’s not magical at removing thick sunscreen or full glam makeup. Think of it more like a chill, “I got you” kind of wash rather than an aggressive, work-out-the-dirt scrub. Honestly, it leaves your skin balanced, smooth, and not the tight, panic-mode mess most cleansers leave behind. Definitely a “my skin actually likes me right now” kind of vibe.
Key Ingredients: Sunflower seed oil and cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, water lily root.
Benefits: Hydrating and gentle, doesn’t disrupt your skin’s protective barrier, perfect for daily use, leaves skin soft and balanced, doesn’t irritate sensitive skin.
Cons: Won’t fully remove heavy makeup or thick sunscreen, minimal foam may feel weird if you’re used to bubbly cleansers, pricey for what it is.
Skin Types: Dry, sensitive, combination, normal.
Fragrance-Free: Yes.
HoliFrog Sunapee Vitamin C Powder Wash ($44.00)
This one’s a weird little science experiment that somehow makes your face feel alive. It’s a powder that you mix with water, which honestly made me pause and go, “Wait, am I making a potion?” But once it turns into this foamy, slippery gel, it’s actually kinda fun. Your skin feels clean but not that oh my god I just stripped off all my moisture tightness. It’s like your face is gently nudged awake instead of yelled at.
Pro tip: don’t just dump it and splash water on top like a caveman, because then you get weird clumps that feel gritty in a bad way, not in a fun exfoliation way. And yeah, it’s not going to melt off a full face of makeup or sunscreen – so if you’re one of those people who wears a ton of SPF and mascara, you’ll need something else first. But for just… life? City dust, leftover snacks on your face, that weird sticky feeling from your hair?
It does the job and somehow leaves your skin feeling smooth without freaking out your moisture barrier. Also, you do get a tiny rush of “I’m a skincare scientist” because mixing powders makes you feel fancy for like 10 seconds. One more thing: the Vitamin C in this won’t do much. Yes, it’s stable enough to work IF left on the skin (this gets washed down the drain).
Key Ingredients: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and bentonite
Benefits: Cleans without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier, gentle but effective, smooths skin, fun little ritual, makes your skin feel alive without freaking out.
Cons: Can clump if you don’t mix properly, doesn’t remove heavy makeup/sunscreen, small jar, kinda expensive.
Skin Types: Normal, combo, dry, sensitive-ish.
Fragrance-Free: Yes.
HoliFrog Superior Purifying Omega + Probiotic Gel Cleanser ($34.00)
Okay so this one’s a gel and like… it kinda just sits there looking like gel, not foaming up a storm, not being dramatic, just quietly being a gel. You put it on, rub a little, and it does the job? Dirt, leftover face sweat, city grime – gone. Your skin doesn’t freak out, doesn’t feel tight, doesn’t go “HELP,” it just… exists. Calm. Weirdly boring for a cleanser but also nice because no one likes a scream-y face. It’s not gonna wipe off your mascara or SPF, sorry. You need something else for that.
Foaming? Minimal. Like, you’ll feel it slightly, but if you’re that person who judges a cleanser by foam, you might be disappointed. Texture is slick, rinses clean, feels kind of soft. You don’t feel fancy, you don’t feel like a scientist, you just feel… like your face isn’t a trash fire. Pricey? Yep. Tiny bottle? Yep. But it works, and sometimes that’s enough. Oh and all that probiotic stuff? In theory, it has natural anti-inflammatory properties. In practice, it gets rinsed off down the drain.
Key Ingredients: Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate.
Benefits: Cleans without stripping skin of its natural moisture, soft-ish finish, chill daily cleanser.
Cons: Not makeup/sunscreen proof, almost no foam, small bottle, kinda pricey.
Skin Types: Basically everyone unless your skin is dramatic.
Fragrance-Free: Yes.
HoliFrog Shasta Exfoliating AHA Daily Cleanser ($39.00)
This one actually foams, which is a relief because sometimes gel cleansers are just slippery sadness. It feels slick and smooth on your face, spreads easily, and doesn’t leave that tight “why did I even wash?” feeling. You get a tiny tingle sometimes, and that’s the AHAs (exfoliating acids) doing their gentle little thing – basically loosening dead skin cells so your rough patches and dull spots feel softer. Don’t get it twisted though: it’s a rinse-off cleanser, so it’s barely does any exfoliation at all.
I know we all like the idea of a cleanser that does double duty, so we don’t have to use a separate exfoliant. But, AHAs don’t do much when they’re rinsed off down the drain within a couple of minutes. And that’s exactly why I don’t use exfoliating cleansers. Not worth it, imho. It’s not a heavy makeup remover either – forget mascara or thick SPF – and yeah, the bottle is small and pricey, which is annoying, but the formula actually makes your face feel alive without screaming at it. The foaming is satisfying, the gel is slick, and the skin just… feels like skin again instead of a dry, sad patch.
Key Ingredients: Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Lactic acid and Glycolic acid.
Benefits: Foams nicely, removes some impurities, makes skin softer.
Cons: Not for heavy makeup/sunscreen, small bottle, pricey, AHAs in a cleanser don’t give full exfoliation.
Skin Types: Normal, combo, dry, sensitive (start slow if sensitive)
Fragrance-Free: Yes
HoliFrog Kissimmee Makeup-Removing Vitamin F Cleansing Balm ($39.00)
This balm is thick, buttery, and honestly chaotic in the best way. You scoop it out, rub it on your face with some water, and – surprise! – it foams a little. It melts sunscreen, mascara, and general grime without your face flipping out. The Vitamin F is basically essential fatty acids that keep your skin soft, hydrated, and not tight while the cleansing agents do the cleaning – it’s like a bodyguard for your skin so you don’t rinse and feel like sandpaper. You have to actually rub it around properly, or it just sits there slippery and annoying. Take your time, and your face comes out soft, smooth, comfortable. Definitely a night-time move – mornings would be weirdly oily. Small bottle, expensive, but if you wear makeup or SPF daily, this thing is a miracle.
Key Ingredients: Sunflower oil, grape seed oil, Sucrose Laurate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate.
Benefits: Removes makeup/sunscreen, leaves skin hydrated and comfortable thanks to Vitamin F, non-stripping.
Cons: Thick/slippery if rushed, overkill for mornings, pricey.
Skin Types: All skin types (especially dry/combination wearing makeup).
Fragrance-Free: Yes.

The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, HoliFrog cleansers are… fine. They do what they say, mostly – Shasta gives a little smoothness and wake-up tingle, Kissimmee melts makeup without leaving your face a grease puddle. But don’t expect miracles. AHAs in a rinse-off cleanser? They barely scratch the surface, so if you’re hoping for glowing, peeling magic overnight, you’re gonna be disappointed. And yeah, the bottles are small, expensive, and some formulas feel a bit fiddly – Kissimmee is slippery if you rush, Shasta won’t get your mascara off. They’re not terrible, and they won’t wreck your skin, but they’re also not life-changing. Honestly, these are cleansers that do the basics with some style points, but you’re mostly paying for the “experience” rather than results you can’t get elsewhere.
