The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment Review

The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment promises to do what most lip balms can’t: plump up your lips, smooth out wrinkles and even improve their shape and definition. All without needles, irritating tingling or a ridiculous price tag. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well, I’ve tried it, and while it does a lovely job of moisturising my lips, those anti-ageing claims are a whole different story. Here’s my honest review of The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment and what it can really do for your lips.

The Verdict

My rating: 3.5/5

Best for: Dry, dehydrated lips that need a moisture boost and a little smoothing.

Skip it if: You want noticeably fuller lips or expect a lip treatment to reverse signs of ageing.

What I like: The silky texture, instant hydration, non-sticky finish and handy metal applicator. No irritating tingling, either.

What I don’t: The runny texture can get messy, and the plumping and anti-ageing benefits are underwhelming.

Bottom line: A lovely lip moisturiser dressed up as an anti-ageing treatment. It makes lips softer, smoother and temporarily plumper by hydrating them, but don’t expect it to give you bigger lips or erase wrinkles. Worth buying if you like the texture and need extra hydration. For anything more, save your money.

Key Ingredients In The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment: What Does The Science Say?

HYALURONIC ACID TO HYDRATE AND PLUMP LIPS

Can hyaluronic acid really make your lips look bigger without fillers? Yes, but don’t expect a Kylie Jenner transformation. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant (a fancy way of saying it attracts and binds water to your skin). The more hydrated your lips are, the smoother and plumper they look. That makes fine lines look smaller, too. The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment has two forms of hyaluronic acid

ASIATICOSIDE TO REDUCE LIP LINES?

Can asiaticoside really make your lips look younger and less wrinkled? It’s one of the goodies found in Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola), which is famous for helping skin heal faster. Its secret weapon? It helps boost the production of collagen, the protein that gives your lips their shape and firmness. As you get older, your body makes less of it. Your lips slowly become thinner and develop those pesky little vertical lines.

So, what can asiaticoside actually do about it? In a 2005 study involving 50 women, a lipstick containing asiaticoside reduced the number and depth of lip wrinkles after eight weeks. So, while it won’t give you the dramatic volume of lip fillers, it can help smooth wrinkles and make your lips look younger with regular use.

My Experience With The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment

The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment is a bit of an odd one. It’s not quite a lip balm, not quite a lip gloss. The texture is milky, silky and quite runny, so go easy when squeezing the tube unless you want enough product for five pairs of lips. I do like the metal applicator, though. It makes spreading the product super easy, and you don’t have to get your fingers messy.

It feels really nice on the lips, too. Smooth, soft and moisturising, without that horrible stickiness that makes your hair stick to your mouth every time the wind blows. Just don’t go overboard with it or things can get a little greasy. There’s no noticeable fragrance or taste, which is fine by me. I don’t need my lip treatments to smell like a cupcake.

But let’s get to the important bit. Does it actually plump your lips? Well, yes and no. My lips definitely feel softer and smoother after applying it, and those annoying little lines caused by dehydration aren’t as noticeable. But bigger lips? Nope. I haven’t noticed any real difference in volume. It’s hydration doing its thing, not some magical lip-plumping miracle.

As for the anti-ageing claims, I’m not seeing any dramatic changes in wrinkles either. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting big results here. There are some promising studies on asiaticoside, but boosting collagen takes time. I’m sure I’ll see some results down the line, but nothing too dramatic.

Does The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment Live Up To Its Claims?

BRAND CLAIM TRUE?
A lip formulation that plumps lips immediately while enhancing natural lip definition, shape and colour over time. It plumps up lines. As for the rest, what does enhance mean? It’s too vague and so can mean whatever you want it to mean.
This multi-active formulation contains lip-specific technologies that address signs of aging on the lips such as dryness, roughness, fine lines as well as a loss of volume and definition. Translation: it has hyaluronic acid which deeply hydrates skin and when skin is hydrated lip skin looks younger.

The Verdict: Should You Buy It?

If you’re looking for a good lip moisturiser, The Ordinary HA + Asiaticoside Lip Treatment is worth a try. It makes lips softer, smoother and more hydrated, feels lovely on and doesn’t leave behind that annoying sticky mess. Plus, it’s affordable. What’s not to like?

Well, the anti-ageing claims, for starters. Yes, it can make your lips look a little plumper by hydrating them, but don’t expect it to give you bigger lips or magically erase wrinkles. The science behind asiaticoside is promising, but I’m not convinced this treatment does anything more than a good lip balm when it comes to fighting signs of ageing.
