Worst Of Beauty 2014

The end of the year has always been a time for balances. For beauty bloggers, that often means reminiscing about the beauty products we discovered in the past 12 months.’We celebrate those we’ve fallen in love with and throw away those that disappointed us.

When I first started blogging, my list of duds was almost as long as that of gems. But over the years, the former has gotten shorter and shorter, until this year it features only two products, both of which have been discontinued.

I have beauty bloggers to thank for that. I used to be an impulse buyer, which is not the best way to discover little gems. Often, you’re stuck with underperforming products packaged in a pretty, shiny case. But this year is seems I have finally learned my lesson. No impulse buys. Instead, I stuck to products recommended by my favourite bloggers. They never disappoint.

So, what were the two products that made it into the Worst Beauty List of 2014?

The first is Mememe Fat Cat Mascara. It didn’t do anything for me. It gave me no volume and barely any length. My lashes looked like I hadn’t applied anything. Big fail! At least it was part of a set, so the other products made up for this disappointment.

The other dud is Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Midnight Plum. A beautiful and dark vampy shade, it applies patchy, no matter how much you prep or exfoliate your lips beforehand. It’s just impossible to make it work. 🙁

What products have disappointed you this year?

Fortunately, I don’t recall trying any duds this year. But I shop very carefully, thanks to a trusted list of beauty bloggers!

Laurie, glad you didn’t try any duds this year. Thank goodness for beauty bloggers, like they? They can be enabler as well, but at least don’t make you waste your money on stuff that doesn’t work,

Well, it is not the first vampy shade that I have heard of applying patchy. I guess that this kinds of shades are less forgiving that say nudes for example.

And yeah, I too have greatly reduced my list of duds 😉

Tirurit,. vampy shades are very unforgiving, I agree. It’s not easy to find such a dark purple shade with a good, creamy and smooth formula.

Glad you reduced your list of duds too. 🙂

Midnight plum from maybelline is such a disappointment…………..

Lia, it really is. 🙁

Too bad about the Midnight Plum. The color is sensational. My duds were Paula Dorf Teal Mascara that had no color and did nothing at all for my lashes and also Be A Bombshell mascara that I got in an ipsy bag and it smelled to bad that I didn’t try it even once. Oddly, BAB never sent out a replacement product – a big missed opportunity for them to make it up. Their stock plunged in my mind.

Allison, I hate coloured mascaras that don’t provide any colour. What’s the point? And that’s so bad of BAB! I know some provide old stock for these bags, but the products shouldn’t be so old to be spoiled, ineffective and dangerous.
