When I started working from home, I was so naive. I thought I’d only need a laptop. While, obviously, I couldn’t work without that, there are so many other things I need. Things that make my job a lot easier, and a lot more pleasant. Here are my favourites:
I’m becoming one of those annoying people who checks her emails and social media accounts on her smartphone every five minutes. That’s what being self-employed/blogging does to you. You need a phone that helps you check emails, plan your day, and keep you organized even when you’re out and about, so you don’t miss anything important.
I tried going paperless, and switch to Evernote, but nothing beats an old-school notebook. I remember things a lot more easily when I write them down on a piece of paper. Plus, that’s always in front of me, so there’s no risk of me forgetting something because I’m too lazy to open the app (yep, that happened. More than once. Ooops!). I have a bright, colourful notebook with dividers and pockets, so I can keep things easily organized, and find everything I need quickly.
I rarely wear glasses when I’m out and about, even though I should. My eyes aren’t as good as they used to be. But, at home, they are a must. I love my new pair from Firmoo. I’ve always worn neutral-coloured glasses, so the bright purple was a bit of a shock to get used to. But I get lots of compliments whenever I wear them. They’re fun, and, most importantly, comfortable.
4. Lip Balm
I’m addicted to lip balm. Wherever I go, it follows. I have one in my bag, one in my desk, one in my jacket… I just can’t be without it. My favourite lip balm is Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm Shea Butter & Vitamin E SPF 25, but at the moment it’s Cowshed Lippy Cow Natural Lip Balm that’s on my desk. So moisturizing, and gives my lips lots of shine too.
5. Hand Cream
My hands get all dry and flaky so easily. I blame the boiling hot showers I like to take every evening. And the cold fall weather certainly isn’t helping. That’s why I like to have something at hand on my desk to keep them soft and healthy. Now I’m testing Salcura Winter Skin Hand Therapy. It’s absorbs quickly into my skin, which I love. I don’t want to leave greasy fingerprints everywhere!
6. Bottle Of Water
Like lip balm, a bottle of water comes with me everywhere. I always have one in my bag, and one on my desk, so I can take frequent sips throughout the day, and give my body all the hydration it needs. It does make a huge difference. My body feels so much better when I’m having my 8 glasses of water a day. I use small glass bottles, so they never stink, and just fill them up with tap water every day.
