Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.60

by Gio

Hello,

ready for some more random ramblings? Here we go:

Wishlist, Vol.04

wishlist 04

1. Reem Acra Eau De Parfum: Reem Acra’s first perfume opens with a burst of orange blossom and a lingering blend of pear and bergamot; the heart is a blend of warm and spicy ginger mixed with a delicate bouquet of jasmine, lily of the valley and blooming peony; the drydown is a blend of amber and cedar wrapped in sophisticated patchouli and warm musk. Sounds gorgeous, doesn’t it?

2. Louis XVI and the French Revolution by Alison Johnson: a new biography of King Louis XVI will be released in May, although it can already be preordered. Being obsessed with the French Revolution and the royal family of the time, I can’t wait to get my hands on this, even though I may wait until a more economic version comes out. At the moment, it retails at $40!

3. Karen Millen Black Floral Embroidery Dress: a pretty georgette dress with pleated skirt detailed with pretty floral embroidery and dot mesh back and sleeves that’s perfect for spring. It’s also available in purple with black details.

4. Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick Super-Moisturizing Lip Gloss Crayon: if, like me, you love lip crayons, you can’t miss these. They have a hydrating formula that leaves a creamy, sheer wash of colour behind, and smell like vanilla. They are available in three shades: Plum Jam, Fuchsia Ristic and Nudist.

5. Sleek Makeup Flick It Eyeliner: available in Dazzling Black, Royal Blue and Purple Aura, all of which have a matte finish, Flick It Eyeliners have a felt tip that allows you to create both thin and thick lines with precision and a longlasting formula. They will be released on 13th February.

6. Benefit Fine One One: a brightening lip and cheek trio that features a soft coral for contouring, a sheer watermelon to add a pop of colour to the cheeks and a pink champagne to highlight the cheekbones. I’ve heard mixed reviews and it is seems it works best for pale princesses like me so I will have to give it a go.

What I’m Reading Now

princesses the six daughters of george iii flora fraser
Princesses: The Six Daughters Of George III by Flora Fraser. I love reading books about lesser known royals and there are six of them here, so of course I couldn’t pass it up. But, unfortunately, it isn’t an as interesting read as I had hoped. Maybe it’s because there are so many characters (the princesses had nine brothers, and yes, they all had the same mother – poor Queen Charlotte!), or because the princesses spent most of their lives as single ladies confined in their royal residences (unmarried women didn’t really enjoy much freedom back then) but I find the book quite dull. Although the author did a lot of research, she included way too many details in the book that just bog it down. At times, it seems like you’re only reading extracts from their letters! And boy, did those princesses write a lot. It would have been more interesting had the author explored issues such as why their father didn’t want them to marry or the relationships they had with the men they loved. As it is, I feel like I know all about their daily lives, but nothing about who these princesses really were. Still, I’d recommend it to history nerds interested in this historical period.

1. How do you listen to your music?
I usually do on my computer when I’m applying makeup or cleaning up my room.

I feel Senna Cosmetics is underrated. Their eyebrow products are amazing, the matte eyeshadows have a wonderful formula and the lip products are lovely. Also Sugarpill. I love how pigmented their eyeshadows are.

3. What’s on your bedside table?
Nothing. I don’t have one at the moment. My desk is just right beside my bed.

4. Beyonce or Rhianna?
Beyonce. That girl can sing!

1. How do you listen to your music? On my laptop…it helps me to relax ๐Ÿ™‚
2. What brands do you love that you feel are underrated? I agree with Senna, I have a couple of their products and they are wonderful, especially the lipglosses. NYX is underrated in my country. Marionnaud used to sell NYX products but now they’ve stopped cause nobody was interested in them.
3. Whatโ€™s on your bedside table? A small Ikea lamp, my Iphone, nose drops, a glass of water because I always keep my bottle of water near bed and there will be some hair clips when I will go to sleep ๐Ÿ™‚
4. Beyonce or Rhianna? Hmmm…I was to a Beyonce concert back in 2007 and I really like her songs and actually even her body type ๐Ÿ™‚ I also like some songs of Rhianna but she doesn’t seem a complete singer to me. ๐Ÿ™‚
5. Do you like cropped jackets? Yep, they look funny ๐Ÿ™‚

Tavia, what a shame NYX wasn’t successful in your country, they make so many great products! They’re about to enter the Italian market soon actually and I hope they’ll be better received here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck to NYX in Italy then! ๐Ÿ™‚ Here they can still be purchased only through an online makeup site which is OK I guess rather than nothing, but it would have been nice to see the products in person before you order something. I really base my decisions on Marlena from makeupgeek advices, she also loves NYX a lot. ๐Ÿ™‚

At least you can still get them, but I agree. Shopping online isn’t the same thing.
And I love Marlena, she’s so lovely and talented. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. How do you listen to your music?
in the car w/ one of those tape deck converters when I’m home for break, on my iPod at the gym, and on my computer when I’m folding laundry or cleaning ๐Ÿ™‚
2. What brands do you love that you feel are underrated?
Liz Earle…not many people talk about it in the US because it’s not widely available. I’m with you on Senna too, they do some pretty fantastic products.
3. Whatโ€™s on your bedside table?
At school, my bedside table is my only table LOL, so a little bit of everything.
4. Beyonce or Rhianna?
hmm that’s hard. I think I have an equal amount of songs from both of them. Going to say Beyonce for now because she killed it at the Superbowl.
5. Do you like cropped jackets?
Love em with shorter dresses

Makeup Morsels, I agree about Liz Earle. I liked everything I tried from them. Such a shame it’s not more easily available in the States.

If you’re interested in a fragrance, it’s bound to be good haha. I trust you that much! That’s a beatiful dress and unique but not over the top. I will let you know when I have my first Sleek haul! (It’s bound to be massive considering how many items rock.) I am the same way when it comes to beauty product. What isn’t pigmented enough or too sheer works wonders on my pale complexion. I want to thank you for making me learn to love my pale coloring. I used to be ashamed of it, living in a culture bombarded with tanned beauty.

Even though I don’t read most of the books you read, I pick up bits of history and knowledge which I love so continue sharing! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to check out that interview! Congrats on that.

1. I’ve been using Pandora lately so I don’t listen to the same music all the time.
2. Giorgio Armani, Fyrinnae, Milani, Youngblood, Hourglass, yabi cosmetics.
3. A lamp ad perfumes! Also some makeup.
4. Beyonce without doubt. She is so talented live.
5. Yup, I like them but with tunics, slips, or dresses best

Janessa, I haven’t smelled that scent yet, but judging by the description and the reviews I’ve read, it smells wonderful. I hope I will be able to get my hands on a sample soon.

Aww, I’m so glad to hear that. I hate how obsessed with tanning our culture is. We should just embrace and love our skin colour and I’m glad I helped you do that. ๐Ÿ™‚
