Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.46

Hello everyone,

and happy Sunday! Ready for some random ramblings?

My Hero

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnjW5she4DE

My Hero is one of my favourite comedy shows ever. George, alias the superhero Thermoman, is an alien from the planet Ultron who’s married to an earthly woman. He can save people and the earth from disasters thanks to his superpowers, but he doesn’t understand our human customs and ways, which often baffle him. He always tells the truth, even when it’s not polite to do so, which often makes it come off as rude, and you need to be careful when you talk to him because he takes everything literally, which causes a lot of misunderstanding and problems. It’s quite a silly show, but also utterly hilarious. You won’t be able to stop laughing from begging to end. It’s simply brilliant. Truly, no one does comedy like the British. πŸ™‚

What I’m Reading Now

Pope Alexander VI and his court : extracts from the Latin diary of Johannes Burchardus. This book features extracts from the diaries of Johannes Burchardus, the master of ceremonies for five pontiffs, and focuses in particular on his time at the service of Alexander VI, Rodrigo Borgia. As master of ceremonies, its entries mostly have to do with the ceremonies the Pope had to attend/perform, describing what the proper etiquette would be for the occasion and how sometimes it was decided to deviate from it or ignore certain rules. Such mistakes, whether willing or not, really irritated him. There are also personal tidbits on the members of the Borgias family, as well as brief accounts of the many people murdered at the time, which gives us a better understanding of this historical period. But as the focus is on etiquette and ceremonies, I would recommend it only to those who are very interested in anything related to the Borgias. If you’re not, you may find this read kinda boring. If you want to read it though, it’s available for free at archive.org.

1. How did you celebrate Halloween? What costume did you wear?
We don’t celebrate Halloween here, but I’d love to hear your stories if you do!

2. Best moisturizer for dry body skin?
The Body Shop Body Butters. They are so moisturizing and smell delicious!

3. Favourite drink for the cold season?
I like to drink a hot cup of green tea every afternoon. I also like a nice cup of hot chocolate every now and then.

4. Yoga or pilates?
I’m not a big fan of either, but I’d say pilates because it’s more dynamic.

5. What do you think of hatinators (fascinators shaped like small hats)?
I love them, I think they are so cool and more practical than a traditional, big hat.

1. We organized a trick or treat for children in our neighborhood. I wore a spider headband and my daughter painted a spider on my face.

2. Body butter, or richer body lotions.

3. Hot tea, usually herbal tea with ginger, it’s warming.

4. I don’t do either but a friend has been encouraging me to try yoga.

5. Cute.

1. How did you celebrate Halloween? What costume did you wear? I don’t celebrate this holiday. It was borrowed from US a few years ago but is nothing official and only some clubs take advantage of this holiday to attract more customers. πŸ™‚ I have nothing against it but every country has its holidays and should stick to it no to around and borrow from others. Same goes for Valentines Day.
2. Best moisturizer for dry body skin? Hmmm… my skin has never been dry but I would definitely recommend La Mer Body Lotion…it’s amazing and the best thing is you can use it once in a while (2 times per week) because it’s so moisturizing and hydrating and keeps working long after you’ve applied it. πŸ™‚
3. Favourite drink for the cold season? Fruit tea with lemon or a hot chocolate with wiped cream. πŸ™‚
4. Yoga or pilates? Pilates for me πŸ™‚
5. What do you think of hatinators? I always loved them even though I don’t own one but I think they are very stylish. πŸ™‚

Tavia, I agree with you about Halloween. Each country should stick to its own holidays, not borrow from others to make a quick buck.

If you like this book, you may like Jacob Burckhardt’s The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy. First published in the mid 1800s he is considered one of the fathers of art history. This was & remains my favorite about the Renaissance. It’s not only about art but about the society of the time.
1. We didn’t celebrate it this year. My daughter was not in the mood for it.
2. Avène Cold Cream Body Lotion. Very inexpensive & quite rich.
3. A cafΓ© au lait in the morning & I’m usually fine for the day. If it’s really cold, a cup of Twinings Blackcurrant tea with both milk & a little sugar.
4. Neither. Long fast walks for me.
5. I had to look for a definition. I’m French & don’t remember hearing the term. They are indeed very stylish but I can’t imagine myself wearing one.

Icaria, thanks for the book recommendation. I’ve just downloaded it from Project Gutenberg and can’t wait to read it. It sounds fascinating. πŸ™‚

1. How did you celebrate Halloween? What costume did you wear?
First time I’ve ever celebrated Halloween here! my daughter was invited out to Trick or Treat with a friend, and mums also invited. I put on a black cape that I used to wear for trips to theatre – perfect Witch material now lol! I did a particularly pale primer/foundation and black eye shadow and very dark Mulberry shade lip stick from Sleek. Think it looked quite eerie lol. My ( 9 year old) DD had a were-wolf mask on. Had a good evening. It was also our 20th Wedding Anniversary, so had the added benefit of a glass of champagne when I went home – and a take-out fish-and-chips supper so I didn’t have to cook. A GOOD evening πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
2. Best moisturizer for dry body skin?
The Body Shop Body Butters like you!

3. Favourite drink for the cold season?
Tea. Yorkshire Tea all the time πŸ™‚

4. Yoga or pilates?
No thanks! I’d prefer yoga I think.

5. What do you think of hatinators (fascinators shaped like small hats)?
Sound nice, but not familiar with them!

I feel like I can tell how smart someone is by how much she reads! Well… not really, but you should be so proud of yourself for always learning and reading.
1. I was Donald Duck (just a wore a hat though)
2. Body Butters from TBS, I love Origin’s Preciptation Extra (though that one’s much more costly) and Korres body butters are divine. For the price (with promotions) I choose TBS. Thanks for introducing me to them, Gio!
3. Green tea! I’ve been adding random tea bags together lately :] And Starbucks holiday drinks! The red paper cups and white lid… green cap and stir stick… so festive! It makes me feel like it’s almost Christmas when I have a cup.
4. I don’t know… I choose yoga because it seems so relaxing. If I wanted a real workout, I’d bike or run.
5. They’re dainty and lady-like. As a hat lover, I’d wear one without much thought. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to buy one just because I wouldn’t get much use from it but just a few wears.
4.

Janessa, aww thanks!

Oh, I’m missing Starbucks more and more! It’s so unfair they won’t come here! Their holiday drinks sound so festive!
