Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.38

by Gio

Hello everyone,

ready for some random ramblings? Let’s get started then:

Ask Me Anything

I usually use this space to share bits and bobs about my life with you. But today I got thinking, is there anything in particular you want me to talk about? Should I share more songs I like or post more pictures of my beauty and fashion hauls, for instance? And if I started talking about history and art, would that bore you? Also, if there’s anything you’d like to ask me, just do so in the comments. I’d love to hear your feedback or answer any questions you may have. 😉

What I’m Reading Now

Me And The Big C by Becky Dennington. When Becky Dennington was diagnosed with breast cancer, she decided to start a blog to chronicle her fight and her emotions. Later, the blog was turned into a book, Me And The Big C. Becky talks about everything she went through medically, emotionally and physically. She describes the exams and treatments she underwent, which give us a real insight into what people with cancer go through. I knew about biopsy and chemotherapy for instance, and these words really scared me (still do), but I didn’t really know exactly what they implied and how they were performed. And although Becky has every reason to complain about her cancer, and sometimes she understandably does (I really felt for her, especially when she describes how vulnerable she felt), she tries to keep a positive attitude throughout her disease. In fact, the overall tone of the book is quite funny and witty. It was also heartwarming to see how her husband, her family, her neighbours and even strangers rallied around her and helped her in any way they could. Overall, this memoir is very emotional, inspiring and easy to relate to.

Sunday Survey, Vol.38

1. When was the last time you received a postcard?
I think it was 4 or 5 years ago actually. It’s been ages since I’ve received one, but then these days it’s easy to keep in touch with friends and family members when they travel. And they always come back with hundreds of beautiful pictures to show us that I guess postcards aren’t often necessary anymore.

2. What was the last beauty product you’ve splurged on?
Seville A L’Aube by L’Artisan Parfumeur. I’m more of a drugstore kinda gal when it comes to beauty products and only splurge on expensive items when the quality is excellent and I know I’ll use them a lot. And your signature scent is definitely something worth splurging on!

3. What TV shows are you watching at the moment?
I’m still catching up on the last season of True Blood. Love it!

4. Would you rather have perfect skin or perfect hair?
Perfect skin. I can always wear my hair in a messy bun if I have a bad hair day.

5. What do you think of matte foundations?
I think they’re great for people with oily skin, but I prefer something with a dewy finish.

History and art, history and aaart!
[/overreaction]

I received a postcard this summer from a friend that rejects most technology, I’d rather have perfect skin (I’m used to hair being imperfect 🙂 ), and I’m watching episode 9 of True Blood’s season 5. I’m also catching up on QI via YouTube (bless the uploaders!).

My thesis… exam? What’s the English word for it? … got postponed for 3 months because my mentor is traveling, I broke up with my boyfriend, friends are deep in their own exams and work comes in batches, so I have enough time to get up to date with pop-culture. How out of touch I have been was silly – I can’t finally stop being the one that has to close her ears when friends say “Spoiler alert!” 😀 .

Ana, lol. I thought you may like that suggestion and I will try and post some history and art stuff soon.

I hope you are ok hun *hugs* Just take it easy and catch up on all the things you missed out on. I’m sure you’ll be very busy again when your mentor comes back. 🙂

My questions!:
– Favorite ice cream flavor
– Favorite color
– Favorite hairstyle that you like to wear
– Favorite article(s) of clothing
And I love history and art so that’d entertain me 😀

What a powerful book! Have you ever read Reviving Ophelia?

I so agree with Dr. Schultz about unprotected sun exposure and how it’s important to keep using sunscreen. I’ve had a lot of USE (unprotected sun exposure lol) as a kid and I hope it is just 23%. When I heard 80% I was thinking, “What?! I’m doomed?” Haha 😀
Enjoying the links! <3

1. A few months ago, maybe June?
2. Guerlain Rouge Automatique in Chamade
3. None! I want to watch Game of Thrones since I've heard such wonderful things about it.
4. Perfect skin, definitely! Skin is so crucial to the face!
5. I think they look nice on camera, but in real life, it looks very doll-like and possibly flat unless other products like highlighters are used to give more dimension. I prefer dewy finishes. :]

Janessa, my favourite ice cream is vanilla. Boring I know but so yummy. Fave colour is pink. My fave hairstyle is a short bob without a fringe (really need a haircut atm!) and my fave article of clothing is dresses, especially lace dresses, even though I don’t have many occasions to wear them. But I like them because they’re so classy and feminine. And yay for another history and art vote!

I haven’t read that one yet, but it’s on my wishlist. 🙂

I thought I was doomed too as I rarely wore sunscreen when I was younger. I just didn’t know it was necessary unfortunately. But 23% makes much more sense and luckily that means there’s a lot more damage we can prevent. 🙂

And do watch Games Of Thrones, it’s awesome! 🙂
