What I’m Reading Now

The Pastor’s Wife by Elizabeth Von Arnim. Written in the early years of the 20th century, the book is based on the experiences and marriage of the author. Ingeborn, the daughter of an English bishop, decides to go to Lucerne, where she finds herself engaged against her will to a German pastor. The two get married and Ingeborn will give birth to a child every year, but most of her children would die in early childhood or be born dead. She also feels alone and unwanted in her new country as everyone considers her a foreigner and so they don’t feel the need to include her in her life. Then, one day, the famous painter Ingram falls for her and tempts her to join him in Italy… what will she do? The book reminded me of Emma Bovary and her tragic story, although this one ends differently.. But even though I really liked the story, and it made me chuckle at times, I didn’t enjoy the book too much simply because it is unnecessarily long and I felt quite a lot of passages could easily have been taken out. As it is, all those details and particulars make the book too long and boring at times. If you’re interested to read it, it is available for free at Gutenberg.org

1. What’s your favourite thing about May?
Warmer weather, which means more fruits and veggies available at the supermarket! It got hot really quickly though – it is now over 30 deg C. 2 weeks ago, it was 18.

2. Where do you store your makeup?
Everything that I’m using regularly is on top of my dresser. Anything that I’m not using is in a box in another room. I forget about stuff that I can’t see.

3. What are you wearing at the moment?
A t-shirt and shorts, I’m about to head to bed!

4. Chess or draughts?
What is draughts?

5. What do you think of ombre hair?
I agree – it looks great if done right! I like gradual ombre, not the dipped and dyed type.

K, it got really quickly here too. A week ago we were in winter, and now suddenly it is 20C. I’m loving the warm weather though.

Draughts, or checkers in American English, is another strategy board game. 🙂 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draughts

I sometimes wish British and American English didn’t have so many different words, it can get confusing sometimes. lol

My real answer to #4 is bridge. I played chess for a while but got tired of it.

I’ve always wanted to learn to play bridge but for some reason I haven’t got round to it yet. I’ve heard it’s quite complicated.
