and welcome to another round of random ramblings! Let’s start this Sunday by taking a look at what’s new in the beauty shops, shall we?
SEPHORA SUN SAFETY KIT ($32.00)
Here in London, you can find pretty much every beauty brand and shop you can think of, bar Sephora. It’s a shame cos this sun safety kit is really tempting me. GIORGIO ARMANI EYES TO KILL LINER (€32.00)
Giorgio Armani Eclipse collection for summer contains metallic dark shades you don’t associate with the hot season, which is why I love it so much. It’s always refreshing to see someone do something different for a change. Their eyeliner is now available in four mysterious shades: No.07 Zenith, No.08 Sunset, No.09 Boreale, No.10 Minuit.
GIORGIO ARMANI NAIL LACQUER (€23.00)
This collection also features some beautiful nail polishes. My favourite is the one pictured above, No.403 Rouge Eclipse. Looks so vampy!
TOO FACED PASSIONATELY PRETTY EYE SHADOW COLLECTION ($49.00)
Too Faced has already released its new fall collection. Way too early if you ask me. But hey, at least it’s very pretty. My favourite piece is this palette, which features 15 silky shadows in shimmer, pearl and matte finishes, embossed with tiny little hearts. So romantic! Available at toofaced.com.
TOO FACED LOVE FLUSH LONG-LASTING BLUSH ($26.00)
Another favourite from the Too Face collection is the blush. Available in six shades, it is pigmented, longlasting, and utterly adorable! Available at toofaced.com.
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN SCARABEE NAIL COLOUR ($50.00)
I really hate the packaging of Louboutin’s nail polishes. I get it is supposed to represent the heel of a stiletto, but to me it looks like a dangerous weapon that could easily poke my eye out if I’m not careful in handling it. But, oh the new shades for summer are lovely. Inspired by the iridescent beauty and wonder of the scarabee beetle, they look “reflective under the bright sun but also look like a precious jewel by night”. But if the shades are unusual, their names are boring. They are called Scarabee I (nude pink gold), Scarabee II (violet blue), and Scarabee III (green bronze). Available at Sephora.
What I’m Reading Now
Helping Your Child with Extreme Picky Eating: A Step-by-Step Guide for Overcoming Selective Eating, Food Aversion, and Feeding Disorders by Katja Rowell and Jenny McGlothlin
I wish this book had been written 30 years ago! I used to be an extremely picky eater as a child, which frustrated my parents to no ends. Worried my limited diet was damaging my health, they tried everything they could to make me eat everything, but to no avail. To make matters worse, they were blamed for not being able to make me eat properly, even though they did the best they could.
If that’s often not enough, it’s because this problem is not well-understood. Refusal of food is not a capricious whim, but a disorder that stems from anxiety. Reducing a child’s anxiety around food and creating a stress-free environment at meal times is fundamental if you want him/her to make progress. It’s one of the steps in the the authors’ STEPS+ approach (Supportive Treatment of Eating in PartnershipS), which has helped lot of children enjoy all kinds of food. The authors also teach you lots of strategies to deal with anxiety, low appetite, sensory challenges, autism spectrum-related feeding issues, oral motor delay, and medically-based feeding problems, as well as “scripts” you can say to your child when he/she’s refusing food.
Insightful and informative, it is also an easy read. There’s no difficult scientific jargon here. The tone is friendly and helpful and the advice straightforward. If your child is an extreme picky eater, or you know someone who is, pick up a copy. It’ll help immensely. Available at Amazon UK and Amazon US.
