Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.173

by Gio

Hello gorgeous,

another week, another round of random ramblings. Let’s start with your feedback and how it will change Beautiful With Brains, shall we?

Readers’ Survey 2015: The Results

bwb survey
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in my readers’ survey. I really appreciate your feedback. It really helps me a lot in creating a better blog for you. But don’t worry. BWB won’t change too much. I was pleasantly surprised to discover most of you like the blog as it is, but there are some areas that need improving, so some changes are inevitable. So, let’s talk about the results, and how they affect the future of Beautiful With Brains, shall we?

Favourite posts

Ingredients got the top spot, followed closely by skincare tips. Third place is a tie between reviews and beauty history. I was actually surprised about the latter because I thought beauty history posts weren’t getting much love and wondered whether it was better to get rid of them. Guess not. Thank goodness I asked!

Least favourite posts

Few of you are interested in haircare posts. I guess, after a while these posts tend to become quite similar and boring. Hair is dead and there’s not really much you can do to fix it, apart from using a good conditioner and limiting damage as much as possible, and it gets tiring reading the same advice over and over again. I’ll still write about hair from time to time, but less often from now on.

You also don’t seem very interested in new collections and launches, probably because I’m so late in catching up with them. There are just too many. So, rather than dedicating an entire post to a few new collections every week, from the next I’ll just share my favourite beauty picks in my Random Ramblings posts.

You ladies are split on looks. Some of you love them. Some of you hate them. And some other still feel neutral about them. This is the area where I received the most criticism. It’s clear that what I’m doing isn’t working, so I decided to stop posting looks for a while until I figure out how to improve this feature. Even then, I may just do a few look posts only for special occasions, such as Christmas or the release of a new movie that inspires me. Some have suggested I do a few historical looks as well, and that’s definitely something I’m looking into.

Post frequency

Because I’m incorporating new launches into Sunday Random Rambling posts, I decided to go back to publishing only one post a day. I know that some of you don’t like this idea, and are worried that it means I’ll post less and less and before you know it the blog won’t be updated anymore, so let me reassure you.

Beauty and writing are my passions, and I really don’t know what I would do with my time if I didn’t blog. And that’s without mentioning how much I love talking and connecting with you all. You changed my life in ways you can’t even imagine, helping me build my confidence and become a better person. Thank you!

And that’s why I need to post less. So, that I can give something back to you and serve you better. There is no point in me wasting time writing posts few read, when I could use that time on features that you actually enjoy, or improving my photography skills, or other behind the scenes stuff that will make the blog better.

New features

Most of you don’t want any new features. Only a few would like to see videos and ebooks, so I’ll start working on ideas for those. I actually have too many of them, but choosing one or two, and turning them into a reality is going to take a lot of time and work, so please bear with me while I figure it all out.

What do you think of these changes? Like them or hate them? Let me know in the comments.

Rich Bitch: A Simple 12-Step Plan for Getting Your Financial Life Together…Finally by Nicole Lapin
Are you struggling to make ends meet every month, always wondering where all your money has gone to? Would you like to get your financial life in order, but you don’t know where to start? Does money talk leaves you confused, and you feel frustrated at the thought of saving a few bucks by abandoning those little indulgences, like your latte, that make your day that little bit more special? Then, Nicole Lapin is your girl.
Lapin explains all this money stuff in plain English, so it’s easy to understand even for newbies whose mind spins at the mere mention of the word finance. Her tongue-in-cheek, colloquial style makes you feel like you’re getting advice from your best friend over a cup of coffee. You never feel lectured to.
And you won’t feel deprived either. While Lapin is very insistent about you not buying assets that depreciate in value, she won’t make you give up your lattes. Instead, she’ll make you question popular wisdoms such as leasing cars. investing in a 401(k), or the belief that buying a house is better than renting it (sometimes it is, but not always). And then she tell you how you should invest your money, build a nice nest egg for yourself, save for rainy days, and get out of debt. Highly recommended. Available at Amazon.

Sunday Survey, Vol.239

1. Can you walk and text at the same time?
Nope. I’ve tried a few times, but it has always ended badly.

2. The first beauty tip that comes to mind?
Exfoliate regularly. Once those dead cells are removed, your skin looks brighter, more even-toned, and smoother.

3. Lip balm of the day?
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm Shea Butter & Vitamin E SPF 25. There’s only very little left in the tube (boo!), so I must remember to repurchase it soon.

4. Vertical or horizontal stripes?
Horizontal for clothes, and vertical for walls.

5. Do you like to match your toe and finger nail polishes?
Yes, but I rarely do it. I usually go for complementary bright shades.

OOOh I never thought of doing historical looks! I’d really love to see you tackle that, because I feel like you would do a really great job with them and make some really accurate ones since you have such great posts on history 🙂

Katie, thanks! I love the idea too, but I need to do some more research so I can do them justice. 🙂
