Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.149

by Gio

Hello gorgeous,

you asked for it, so here are more random ramblings for you! Enjoy!

You saved Sunday Random Ramblings!

survey

A few days ago, I asked you to fill in a survey to let me know how you’d like Beautiful With Brains to change (or not!). Thank you to all who took the time to do it. Your feedback is always very helpful to me. And it has saved the Sunday Random Ramblings series! I was ready to discard it, thinking that not many of you were very interested in it, but you have proved me wrong. It is going to change slightly though. From next week, I will use this space to talk more about me, life in my neck of the woods, fashion, blogging, books (so glad a lot of you like reading too!) and other things that interest me. It’ll be more a post within a post rather than just the few lines about this or that I’ve written so far. I hope this makes sense. If not, you’ll see what I’m talking about next week!

Instead, I have decided to drop the QOTW feature. I figured that, as I’m keeping the Sunday Random Ramblings series, in which I come up with a pool very week, the QOTW feature had become redundant. As you have already noticed, I’m now posting twice a day only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, grouping together several collections in just one post. I think this give me a better opportunity to focus more on reviews, skincare and beauty tips, and all those topics that require more in-depth research. But I can always go back to posting twice a day if you don’t like this new schedule. πŸ™‚

Not many seem to be interested in a newsletter at this point, but a lot of you would like a short course about how to create the ideal skincare routine for your skin type, and gave me some useful suggestions on how to improve it. So, I’ll be working on that in the next few months. Watch this space! Thank you again for all your feedback. And if you ever have any suggestions on how to improve Beautiful With Brains, what topics you’d like me to talk about, or products to review, just let me know. Leave a comment on any post, shoot me an email, tweet me… whatever you prefer. I always love to hear from you! πŸ™‚

What I’m Reading Now

the boleyn reckoning laura andersen
The Boleyn Reckoning by Laura Andersen
If you like alternative history fiction you must read the Boleyn trilogy, which imagines what might have happened had Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII had a son. The Boleyn Reckoning is the last book in the trilogy and so very difficult to review without giving too much away. So, I’ll just say that the world Andersen created is very real. I kept nodding my head, thinking, “oh yes, I can so see this happen, or the political situation change like that had Anne Boleyn had a son”. It’s fascinating to imagine how different England would have been but how certain events would have happened anyway. The book is a fast-paced read, full of twists and turns, plots, betrayals, passion, love, drama, and rebellion. The characters are interesting and well-developed, and I could relate to and care for them all, including William, Anne’s son, who takes too much after his father and is leading the country to the brink of war just to fulfill his personal desires. Highly recommended.

Sunday Survey, Vol.217

1. The last show you marathoned?
Well, I’m not sure you can call it marathoned because I only watched one or two episodes a day, but True Blood.

2. Do you like wearing unconventional colours, like blue or greens, on your lips?
I think that’d be really fun, but I don’t own any yet. I’d like to get a green one, but I’m not sure I’d use it enough to justify its purchase.

3. Something you have to do this week?
Make an appointment to get my hair cut. It’s getting too long.

4. Strawberries or cherries?
Cherries, please!

5. Do you like camo print?
Not a fan. It should be reserved for those in the service.

You always show us a different book every Sunday. Do you manage to read a new book every week? πŸ™‚

Regn, yes. If they’re short, even 2 or 3. I love reading and the kindle makes it easy to read anywhere you are. πŸ™‚

1. The last show you marathoned? DC Cupcakes, but it wasn’t really worth it. Now I started watching Revenge. Liking it so far!

2. Do you like wearing unconventional colours, like blue or greens, on your lips? On the eyes, yes, on the lips, nu uh.

3. Something you have to do this week? Look up bridal shops in my area.

4. Strawberries or cherries? Strawberries.

5. Do you like camo print? Not particularly.

Thanks for the shoutout, Gio!

1. The last show you marathoned? I’m currently watching a lot of Criminal Minds now that it’s on Netflix. I watched a handful of episodes before bed last night and then serial killers were in my dreams.

2. Do you like wearing unconventional colours, like blue or greens, on your lips? Honestly, I haven’t tried it.

3. Something you have to do this week? Dye my hair! My roots are getting out of control.

4. Strawberries or cherries? Aww, I don’t want to choose. I love them both.

5. Do you like camo print? Not really. Not something I’d wear.

Trisha, my pleasure!

Sorry you had nightmares. I never watch shows like that before going to bedtime or I’m not able to sleep. So scary!

I’m really happy to see a new book recommendation every week, this one goes to my list:)
1. The last show you marathoned? I’m awful, I can’t sit for more than 30 min so I never do that because I can barely watch one episode:)
2. Do you like wearing unconventional colours, like blue or greens, on your lips? No
3. Something you have to do this week? Buy a new bag:)
4. Strawberries or cherries? Both
5. Do you like camo print? Yes if it is in bright colors so it doesn’t remind me so much of military

Helena, I’m sure you will enjoy the book. And have fun shopping for a new bag!

Thanks for listening to our feedback!

1. Oh, I misread it and thought it was ‘when was the last time you marathoned’, which was never! I am tempted to do a marathon at least once in my life. I haven’t marathoned a TV show since since I was in middle school. I don’t watch television much.
2. Nope! I plan to buy Technopagan since my friend is interested in it and we can both use it. That way, I won’t waste it.
3. I need to cut my hair, too!
4. Strawberry!
5. I did like camo print and still do, but now that you say your opinion on it, I’m having second thoughts. I highly admire and respect the military and it didn’t cross my mind that I was taking this powerful print and watering it down. I have a few camo athletic-wear pieces.

Janessa, thank you for your feedback! πŸ™‚

If you like camo, wear it. I just think that there’s not much point in wearing it if you’re not in the service, but if it isn’t done disrespectfully you shouldn’t feel guilty or anything like it for wearing it. πŸ™‚

And that’s great that you found a friend to share it with. πŸ™‚

So glad you’re keeping this feature! Such fun
1. The last show you marathoner? None, I don’t do that coz I’m too busy watching sports & cooking shows. Plus I still kind of like watching a series as it unfolds
2. Do you like wearing unconventional colours, like blue or greens, on your lips? disaster
3. Something you have to do this week? clean my house for the cleaners to be able to clean it
4. Strawberries or cherries? both
5. Do you like camo print? I agree with you that it should be for those in the service

1. True Blood, too.
I’m really glad it’s finally over. It became a bit too soap-opera for me (or, it always was). Did you finish it? What are your thoughts on the final season? It seemed unnecessary to me.

Gio September 8, 2014 - 8:35 pm

Ana, I finished it today. It was a weird, disappointing season. I hoped it would go out on a bang, but you’re right, it did turn a bit too soap opera. I find that’s a problem with most shows though. They seem to use all the best ideas in the first seasons and, by the time they reach the end, they hurriedly patch up all the loose ends. I still don’t get Bill’s decision. It was so selfish. And both Eric and Pam deserved a better ending imo.

Ana September 9, 2014 - 8:49 am

I’m completely with you on the Eric and Pam front.
Lafayette deserved more screen time, too!

I’m kinda happy for Jessica and Hoyt (<3 for both), but… in their new relationship they know each other for, what, five seconds? That doesn't sit well with me.

True Blood was one of the shows that had better side characters than main ones (RIP Terry Bellefleur), and I love it for that, no matter how rushed this season was.

Ana, I’ve always loved Jessica and Hoyt, they make such a lovely couple. But yeah, that was odd. I so hoped they’d found a way to make him remember her. It would have made more sense.

I agree re Lafayatte. Unfortunately too many great characters were killed off too soon or given crappy storylines this season. Such a shame.
