Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.14

by Gio

Hello everyone,

it’s time for some random ramblings. Ready? Here we go:

New Shoes

Last weekend, I went shopping for a much needed new pair of flats and came home with these two. Aren’t they pretty? I really love the little flowers and that coral shade is just perfect for spring and summer. I was afraid they would hurt my feet because they are very cheap (the nude pair cost €10, the coral one €12), but instead they are quite comfortable! They were a real bargain! What about you, have you bought any new pair of shoes lately?

What I’m Reading Now

Leap Of Faith by Danielle Steel. I really like Danielle Steel’s earlier books, but her most recent works leave a lot to be desired. Leap Of Faith tells the story of Marie-Ange, a French young girl whose idyllic childhood abruptly ends when her parents and brother die in a car crash. She is then sent to Iowa, to live with a cold and bitter aunt who treats her little better than a slave. Her only friend there is a boy named Billy. When she becomes of age, she learns her parents have left her a fortune and she decides to go back to France where she falls in love with a charming count and marries him, only to discover that Mr Perfect is actually a very dangerous and evil man.. Leap of Faith has all the makings of a good story, but unfortunately it is very rushed. There is no character development, no insights, none of the many themes of the books are explored in-depth. It is a shame cos if the book had been longer  (instead  it is only about 180 pages long), it could actually have been good. As it is it is predictable, stereotypical and average at best.

1. When was the last time you rode a bicycle?
I ride them all the time when I’m in Japan, so that would be this past January.
I’ve been on three biking tours, two in London and one in Paris, and I HIGHLY recommend it as a way to tour a city. You get to meet people and chat with them, plus the biking is really easy!

2. Does your hair color affect your makeup?
I don’t dramatically change my hair color, but I do find I like to wear less makeup when I have highlights in my hair.

3. Do you currently belong in any fan club?
Nope! I never have, even though I’ve gone through periods of swooning over different boy bands!

4. Doughnuts or Bagels?
Bagels please, from New York (where I was raised)!

5. Do you like mermaid dresses?
Not on me, I think they aren’t very flattering for my shape!

K, those biking tours sound like fun. I will try and do one too next time I go to London. 🙂

Your flats look adorable! I love flats very much! I used to like Danielle Steel’s novel but after reading them for a while, I realize they are formulaic. Even Danielle Steel admitted it in one of the interviews. I guess a lot of authors are like that and their reason is because the fans love the same kind of story.

Dao, they are very formulaic indeed. I guess authors feel that if something is working, then why change it? I would put up better with that though if the books were better written. She used to explores the themes of her novels and develop her characters a lot more in her earlier books, but her latest one are all very rushed. It’s like she can’t really be bothered to write well cos she knows her books are gonna sell anyway. It’s very sad.

I like your new shoes, both colors are so pretty. Especially the coral one.

I used to read Danielle Steel’s novels. But nowadays I don’t read much, unless it’s for work. But I just picked up Jeffrey Archer’s The Prodigal Daughter for 2 quid from the lady who sells books at a stand, brand new. I read Kane and Abel many many years ago, then I read there was a sequel. Didn’t come around to reading it till now. My spring break started, so may be I can find sometime to read it.

1. I don’t know how to ride a bicycle.

2 and 3. No.

4. Bagels, with cream cheese!

5. Depends.

Vonvon, what a great you got on that book. I haven’t read the prodigal daughter yet, must add that one to my to-read pile. I find that, as you get older, it becomes harder and harder to find time to read and it’s a shame. Although I’m reading more since I got myself a Kindle as I can carry it around with me and read it on the bus, train, doctor’s office.. whenever really.

Your shoes are great for the summer, and quite a bargain!

1. When was the last time you rode a bicycle?
Does a stationary bike count? If so, nearly ever day.
2. Does your hair color affect your makeup?
No. I have very, very pale skin, so I use makeup colors suited to my complexion.
3. Do you currently belong in any fan club?
No. I’m really not interested in clubs; I’m more of a loner.
4. Doughnuts or bagels?
BAGELS!!!! From NYC, and with veggie or smoked salmon cream cheese! Yum!
5. Do you like mermaid dresses?
I actually hate them. I think they look silly and do not allow women to walk naturally.

Sophie, I agree with you re mermaid dresses, they do look silly indeed. And they mustn’t be that comfortable either.
