Sunday Random Ramblings, Vol.110

by Gio

Hello everyone,

and happy Sunday! Here are this week’s random ramblings:

Readers’ Feedback Survey 2014: The Results

bwb survey

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in my Readers’ Feedback Survey last month. I really appreciate all your help and your suggestions. It’s now time to share with you the results:

Content: not many of you are interested in hair care posts. I have one scheduled for this week, but in the future, I will try to share less tips about haircare and write more dupes/comparisons/best of types of posts, as you requested. 🙂

Photos: I was relieved to discover that most of you are ok with stock photos. I really hate taking photos, which is why I usually ask my boyfriend to do it (all the good pictures on here are taken by him; mine are awful). But he’s not always around when needed, and, besides, it is, unfortunately for me, an important skill for a blogger to have, so I will work more on it. Hopefully you will be able to see more pictures taken by me here in the near future.

Looks: a lot of you have requested I do more natural looks. I won’t give up my bright eyeshadows, but I’m getting more and more comfortable wearing neutral shades as I get older, so I will share more wearable looks with you. Also, a few of you have mentioned that some of my looks are too shimmery. I know! I know! 😳 I just love shimmery shades and the way they make my eyes sparkles, although, admittedly, they look better in real life than in photos. In any case, I know that’s not everyone cup of tea, so I will try to tone the shimmers and glitters down.

Thank you again for all your suggestions, constructive criticism, nice words, and encouragement. Your support means a lot to me. And even though the survey is now closed, if you still have anything else you want to share about the blog, have any further suggestions or requests, feel free to write them in the comments. 🙂

What I’m Reading Now

becoming josephine by heather webb
Becoming Josephine by Heather Webb
Josephine Bonaparte was a survivor. At 16, she left Martinique, the island where she was born, for France, where she married the aristocrat Alexander de Beauharnais. He turned out to be an unfaithful, absent and even cruel husband, so Josephine decided to separate from him and seek refuge in a convent. Then, the revolution broke out. When her patriotic, estranged husband was accused of being a traitor by the Revolutionary government, Josephine too was sent to jail, where she almost died. Only the fall of Robespierre saved her. Once free, she had to rely on her wits, connections and charm to survive. But what she really wanted was safety and when a young, awkward general proposed, she accepted. Little did she know they would rule France together. But becoming Josephine is a lot more than a fictional retelling of Josephine’s life. It’s a journey of self-discovery. Webb takes some liberties with history, leaving out some events in her life, to discuss only those that show how circumstances, and the way she reacted to them, her joys and sufferings, shaped her. The pace of the novel, which covers about 30 years, is just right. Not too fast, but not too slow either. The book flows easily and is a pleasure to read. If you like historical fiction or are interested in Josephine, you should pick it up. Available at amazon.

I read a romanced version about the life of Josephine’s cousin, Aimée Dubuc de Rivery. I don’t think it was translated to English (La Nuit du Sérail). She was shipwrecked, abducted by pirates, ended up in the harem of Topkapi and became apparently quite powerful. Parts of the book were probably fantasy but I remember enjoying it. If only I had more time I think I would like this one too! 🙂

1. I thought about this one hard and honestly have no idea! 🙁
2. Nina, Dior Addict Eau Délice, Chanel Coco Noir.
3. Sleepy Hollow (season is over *cries*), Once Upon A Time, Arrow, Grimm, Dracula and waiting for new seasons of Bates Motel and Hannibal. Now you broke my heart! Ripper Street was cancelled? Grrr!!!
4. Night but on week ends in the morning.
5. I’ve never owned one and rarely see them these days. On some men they’re nice but I don’t think I would wear one.

Icaria, that sounds like a wonderful book. I hope it has been translated into English or will be soon cos I’d love to read it. 🙂

Yep, the BBC said not enough people watched it. Yet, many were upset when it was cancelled and there are petitions to have more episodes shot. I hope that will happen cos it’s a wonderful show.

1. Which celebrity would play you in a movie?
Anna Kendrick, probably.

2. Three fragrances you love?
Miro Cosmetics I Love… Dancefloors, a dupe of La Prairie’s Midnight Rain.

I might have mentioned this, but I think my sense of smell has changed. Or my taste of smell has 😀 .

I went into a perfumerie, went for my old favourites (Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne, Armani She White, J’Adore Dior)… and none smelled good! I found myself going for something different, deeper, weirder.
My parents bought me a big bottle of Kenzo’s Flower when I was a teen and I’m ashamed of that – I used it just a couple of times and went off the smell. I still like it on other, though.

3. What TV shows are you watching at the moment?
4. Do you shower in the morning or at night?

Oh dear, no edit and I accidentally posted a reply, sorry :/ .

3. I just finished Season 3 of Sherlock Holmes.

I AM DISAPPOINT

They went all melodrama on us.

Finally THE WORST VILLAIN EVER is gone (as in: he was infinitely annoying, not scary at all), finally we get someone worthy of being SH’s rival… and we get melodrama.
SPOILER ALERT: the proper rival and his deeds don’t get much screentime, he ends up dead, and it seems that the awful Moriarty will be back next season. Ugh.

(+ I felt intensely embarrassed (agh, what’s that “X transfer”, it’s on the tip of my tongue!) for the producers during “Serbian” scenes. The “Serbian” actor didn’t speak Serbian and Mycroft spoke something similiar to ‘Allo! ‘Allo!’s French and Italian… and he was playing someone who had spent 2 years undercover with some veeery dangerous men.
Also – who wears Red Army coat and hats? It was like landing in a Cold War era anti-KGB propaganda movie.)

Come back to us, good Sherlock!

* * *

Sailor Moon.

Started out slow, but I’m on R series now and I totally get why it’s so popular. It’s great <3 .

4. I shower at night.

Ana, oh dear! I was thinking of watching Sherlock Holmes too but this new season sounds quite bad (and no worries, I love spoilers. I’m weird like that. 😉 ) Hopefully it will pick up again. And annoying, non-scary villains are the worst. They’re just pointless.

A lot of scents have been reformulated lately due to limitations on ingredients that can be used, or to please a wider audience, which usually means taking out all the interesting bits. Maybe that’s what happened. Or your tastes may just have changed. There are lots of scents I use to like as a teenager and now found awful! 🙂

Oh no, if you are a fan, you should definitely watch it!
I’m just one person – as far as I can tell, the reviews are favourable.

By the way, as far as feedback is concerned, have I told you how much I love you Sunday Ramblings?

Maybe I’ll watch the first two seasons and we’ll see how I like them. But If I managed to get through season 7 of supernatural, which has some awful monsters (supposed to be invincible but then die in quite a stupid way), I may get through this one too. Supernatural got better again from season 8, so hopefully SH will improve too.

Oh, thank you! I’m so glad you do! 🙂

Kiss & Make-up, thank you for taking the survey. It’s very helpful to know what readers are thinking. 🙂

Castings sound cool. There are so many great actresses around, it’s hard to pick one!

Tavia, I had never heard of Mike & Molly. I will put it on my to-watch list, thanks or the suggestion.

And I agree. Imo, bomber jackets look better on men than on women too.
