Your Skincare Weapon To Skincare Shopping Like A Pro

the scientific revolution in skincare

Going to Sephora feels like entering a jungle. Shelf upon shelf stacked with lotions, creams and serums, all promising to turn back the clock 20 years, make all your flaws disappear and brew you a cup of coffee.

It’s overwhelming. How are you supposed to navigate that sea of products and find what you’re looking for? You know, an anti-aging serum that works or something?

You try to make sense of the sciencey claims but all that jargon is so confusing. Then, a serum catches your eye. The package is so pretty. The scent heavenly. The price… oh well, if it works, it’s worth it.

You go home. You slather it on happily night after night. You wait to wake up to brighter skin and fewer wrinkles and… Nothing. The damn thing did nothing… except drain your wallet.

Why can’t skincare shopping be easy? *sighs*

It can. You just need the right allies in your corner. A few trusted friends you can turn to to help you find your way in the skincare jungle and figure out what really works and what doesn’t.

Like Dr Hannah Sivak (and this little blog *cough cough* ahem…). She’s the brains behind Skin Actives, one of my fave skincare brands. Skin Actives is all about skincare that works – at affordable prices (think The Ordinary but with way more goodies in each product).

Last year, Dr Sivak wrote a book, The Scientific Revolution In Skincare, to help you learn a little bit more about ingredients, how they work together and how to choose the best ones for your skin type and needs.

Through it all, she debunks common myths (natural doesn’t equal safe, ladies!), decodes nonsense claims (no, that new technology delivery system isn’t all that special) and tells you straight what you don’t need to splurge on (for the love of your skin, stay away from “oxygenating” anything).

The best part? Dr Sivak makes science easy. You don’t need to have a degree in science to understand what she’s talking about. Even if you’ve slept your way through all your science classes in high school (or was that just me?), you’ll come away ready to skincare shop like a pro.

The Scientific Revolution In Skincare is the no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is book about skincare science you always wish you had. Now you do. Go grab a copy. It’ll make skincare shopping  a lot easier!

I found it really hard to understand this brand and how to use it.. you mix your own products?
It would be great if you could make a post about it! How you use this product line, and how to think as a beginner ?

Salina, they have DIY kits so you can make your own products but they also have ready made products.

That’s a great idea, I’ll add it to my editorial calendar. Maybe I’ll see if I can get an interview with the founder, too.
