OMG, just look at it!
Rouge Bunny Rouge Gentle Cleansing Water definitely wins the prize for cutest micellar water ever.
But does it get the gong for most effective too? Cos I ain’t gonna use pretty skincare if it doesn’t deliver…
What The Heck Is A Micellar Water?
Think of micellar waters as the water-based part of a dual-phase makeup remover.
Micellar waters use non-iconic surfactants that are gentler than common surfactants, like sodium laureate sulfate. Rouge Bunny Rouge Gentle Cleansing Water uses PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (it’s a mixture of mono-, di-, and tri- glycerides of caprylic and capric acids mixed with ethylene glycol used to carry oils into water-based systems).
Here’s how it works. Surfactants have two ends (or a head and a tail). The head is hydroliphic (attracts water and repels oils), while the end is lipoliphic (attracts oils and repels water).
When enough surfactant is added to water, its molecules assemble into little groups called micelles. The hydroliphic, water-loving heads are pointed outwards, towards the water, while the lipoliphic, water-hating tails face inwards, well away from it.
When micellar water is poured onto cotton, the water-loving heads firmly stick to it. The oil-loving tails point outwards, towards your face. They’re what dissolve the oils in your makeup and the excess sebum on your skin.
The catch? There’s is only so much grease the oil-loving tails can attract and remove. That’s why they often struggle with waterproof makeup products. 🙁
Let’s Put It To The Test: Personal Use & Opinion
Rouge Bunny Rouge is a clear liquid that feels very refreshing on the skin.
I don’t expect micellar waters to do any heavy lifting in removing makeup. In fact, I prefer to use them in the morning or when I’m wearing a light face of makeup. You know, just a light dusting of foundation and a sprinkle of blush. But for the sake of this review, I tried it on a full face, waterproof mascara and all.
Well, what did ya know, it did the trick. Of course, I’ve had to use one more cotton pad than usual, but the micellar water did remove everything I threw at it, waterproof mascara included.
The best part? It didn’t dry out my skin. When I was done cleansing, my skin was soft and little smoother.
If you’re into your micellar waters, you definitely need to give this one a try!
