I ain’t no drugstore snob. I love browsing drugstore aisles, looking for little gems that perform like high-end products at a fraction of the price. But there’s one product I haven’t considered buying at a drugstore in ages: foundation.
Drugstore foundations have improved a lot in the past few years. They now usually have creamier, lighter textures, and provide a more natural finish. But the shade selection still leaves a lot to be desired. If your skin is very pale or very dark, finding a good match is impossible.
That’s what I thought before discovering Sleek Makeup Bare Skin Foundation. The shade that I was sent, Bamboo, is unfortunately way too dark for my pale skin, but this baby is available in 11 more shades, including three suitable for fair skintones as well. Next time I’m going to London, I definitely plan to pick up the right one for me.
And not just because it is cheaper than my beloved YSL or Dior foundations. Sleek Makeup Bare Skin Foundation has a lot more going for it. To start with it, the texture is lovely. Smooth, creamy, and fairly hydrating, it melts on your skin, leaving it soft. My cheeks tend to get drier in winter, but this foundation blends easily over them, without accentuating any flaking patches.
The coverage is light. Although it can be built up without it ever looking heavy or cakey, it “only” evens out the skintone, covering redness and minor imperfections. If you have dark spots or very bad dark circles, you’ll need to use it with a heavy duty concealer or just opt for another foundation.
But, if your skin is pretty decent to begin with, you’ll love this. It provides that my skin but better look, and just a hint of radiance. The slightly luminous finish keeps your skin from looking flat but doesn’t accentuate moderately oily areas.
You’ll need to set it with powder, though. On its own, it lasted only 6 hours on my oily forehead, and only a bit longer on my dry cheeks. The bottle instead, will last you a few months. The chic tube has a pump that dispenses just the right amount of product you need so none gets wasted.
Sleek Makeup Bare Skin Foundation has a lightweight, fairly moisturizing texture, light but buildable coverage, and a dewy finish that provides a my skin but better look. However, it doesn’t hide serious imperfections, and staying power is average.
