By Terry Mascara Terrybly… Good?

Would you spend £33.50 on a mascara?

My first instinct screams “no way,” but, truth is, if I find the holy grail, that most elusive of mascaras that makes your lashes super long, extra voluminous, beautifully curved, intensely black, without smudging nor flaking, from morning till night, and then makes me a nice cup of tea too… well, I’d be tempted to splurge on it!

By Terry Mascara Terrybly doesn’t claim to make you tea (too bad), but it’s enriched with a lash serum that promises to help your lashes grow. Close enough… if it works. Does it?

I’m not sure. By Terry Mascara Terrybly contains glycoproteins to help promote hair growth but, after a month of regular use, I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference. My lashes look the same length. But they’re a bit softer, thanks to the hydrating power of hyaluronic acid.

What about the mascara itself? Do the intense black pigments and very wet, but not runny, formula deliver a false eyelashes effect? Nope. More like a natural, perfect-for-the-office look.

By Terry Mascara Terrybly adds some length and volume to my lashes. The wand, which is neither too thin nor too thick, does a great job at depositing the colour evenly, even on those hard-to-reach lashes, and separating them. No clumping.

But, frankly, I expected more. I know lots of women crave this natural look, but if I splurge on a mascara, I don’t want the my-lashes-but-better look. I want drama. Lots and lots of drama. Mascara Terrybly is no drama queen. That doesn’t make it bad. Just not for me.

It smudges too. I came home with panda eyes a couple of times (why does no one ever tell you you’re looking like a mess when you’re out and about?), which wasn’t particularly nice. Most days though, when the wind doesn’t make my eye teary, it holds up pretty well. Just keep it away from water.

So, is By Terry Mascara Terrybly worth it? Meh. It depends. If you’re looking for a natural daytime mascara, and money isn’t a concern for you, I think you’ll like it. But if, like me, you want a mascara that makes your lashes scream “I’m here! Pay attention to me!,” you’ll have to look somewhere else.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Pros: Good daytime mascara; Gives a natural look that’s perfect for the office; Provides some length and volume; Doesn’t clump; Wand makes application easy and separates lashes well; Longlasting.

Cons: If you want drama, this is not for you; Smudges; Lash-growth serum didn’t do much for my eyelashes; Expensive.

Summary: By Terry Terrybly Mascara provides some length, volume, and separation for a natural look that lasts for hours. But it smudges. The eyelash-growth serum didn’t do much for me either.

I would usually spend that much on a mascara! The most I’ve spent is $32…$35 including tax for Le Volume de Chanel and it adds so much extra oomph and glamour to the lashes. Meaning it thickens and darkens and lasts a long time. It’s really nice to have but I layer it over a waterproof mascara to hold my curl exactly the way I curled my lashes. When I’m doing a glamorous look, I opt for this and wow does it give me doe eyes.
I think if mascara is a big part of your makeup look and you find a mascara that makes you look and feel amazing, it’s worth it!
I definitely like the ‘I have bold beautiful lashes’ look rather than the natural look.

Janessa, I like the same look too, and I’m glad to hear you’ve found a combination that delivers exactly that. If only it wasn’t so expensive! But you’re right, some things are worth paying more for. 🙂

Too bad about the smudging. Other than that it sounds okay.

Melissa, if you like the natural look, it’s a good mascara indeed. 🙂
