Name: Ultra Plush Lipgloss in Hoola
From Benefit’s website:
Our new plush glosses glide on extra smooth and feel ahhh-mazingly silky & luxurious. The six irresistible shades, from sultry nudes to punchy pinks, come in soft-squeeze tubes with a custom tip designed for perfectly even application.
What I liked:
– if you like very sheer, shiny glosses, this is for you
– comfortable, non-sticky texture
– tastes delicious
– beautiful packaging
What I didn’t like:
– some people may find it way too sheer for their taste
– average staying power
– scent may be too sweet and sugary for some people
– the price
Benefit’s Boxed Powders have achieved cult classic status, and for a good reason. The colours are gorgeous, have good colour payoff, and are easy to apply. You don’t risk clown cheeks with them if you’re not super careful. And the packaging? Adorable!
So, I was very excited when, a few years ago, Benefit created a new range of glosses, Ultra Plush, inspired by Benefit’s much loved boxes. Unlike their big sisters, though, the glosses have received mixed reviews.
The main complaint is their pigmentation. Or, to be more precise, lack of it. Coralista adds just the subtlest pinkish coral hue to your lips, but Hoola, described as a shimmery golden nude, not even that. It’s just a clear nude gloss with a high gloss finish. The shimmers are very fine and subtle and help give your lips that juicy look, but without the colour.
On the plus side, it can be worn with every look, be it a kickass smokey eye or a subtle and natural look for daytime. And its texture is lovely too. Although you can feel you’re wearing it, it is not so thick to be sticky and feels very comfortable on. I don’t find it particularly hydrating, but neither does it dry my lips, so it’s all good.
Hoola’s staying power is average. Like most lipglosses, it lasts only about 2 hours on the lips, forcing me to reapply it more often than I’d like during the day. I’m also not a fan of the scent. Too sweet and sugary for me. The taste, though, is quite nice. Maybe that’s why it disappears so quickly? 😉
Benefit Ultra Plush Lipgloss in Hoola is a very shiny, but very sheer nude shade that only lasts a couple of hours on the lips. However, the non-sticky texture feels very comfortable on.
