my beauty diary collagen firming mask

Name: Collagen Firming Mask
Brand: My Beauty Diary
Size: a box contains 10 masks

From the packaging:
Firming, rejuvanating, renewing and brightening. Especially recommended for skin lacking radiance and elasticity.

What I liked:
– very moisturizing, leaves skin hdyrated, plumper and smoother for hours
– brightens skin
– cheerful packaging

What I didn’t like:
– can’t firm skin
– not suitable for sensitive skin

I have been very lucky to become friends with some amazing people through my blog over the years. One of my closest friends is Hanna, an ex beauty blogger from Malaysia. She knew what a crappy year 2014 was for me and so, last month, she sent me a little package to cheer me up. How thoughtful was that? Thank hun!

So, what was inside the package? Three masks, including My Beauty Diary Collagen Firming Mask. Now, collagen can’t firm skin. To do that, it would have to penetrate it, but its molecules are simply too big and so just remain on the surface, where they provide some needed moisture.

And that’s exactly what this masks does: it moisturizes skin, getting it ready for a special occasion. In addition to collagen, the masks contains two humectants, glycerin and sodium hylauronate (the latter is particularly effective because it works both in low and high humidity conditions), which draw moisture from the environment into the skin.

This increases the moisture level of the skin, keeping it hydrated. Hydrated skin looks plumper, and that, in turn, makes face look smoother and fine lines smaller. The addition of aloe vera also soothes skin.

Although, I wouldn’t recommend it to those with sensitive skin. The mask contains some citrusy extracts (may be responsible for the brightening, dewy effect the mask provides) that may be irritating for some people. My skin could tolerate them just fine, so I didn’t experience any negative reaction.

My Beauty Diary Collagen Firming Mask is quite big. That’s because it must fit faces of all shapes and sizes. But it’s quite easy to put on. You may just want to do so when noone’s around and can’t see you with it on! The mask is soaked with the formula, giving your skin a refreshing sensation when it first touches it.

It needs to stay on for 20-30 minutes. If, once removed, some of the essence is still left on your face, just gently massage it in. This can take a few minutes. There’s no need to rinse it off. Then, just apply your favourite moisturizer, and enjoy hydrated, plumped, and dewy skin for the rest of the day!

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Soluble Collagen, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Polyglutamic Acid, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hamamelias Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Triethanolamine, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Acer Saccharium (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract, Codium Tomentosum Extract, Hydrolized Rice Protein, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Lecithin, Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Power Extract, Polysorbate 80, PEG-15 Hydroxystearate, Saccharium Officianarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Carbomer, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbanate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lactate, Fragrance, Sodium PCA, Glycosphingolipids, Tocopheryl Acetate.

Although My Beauty Diary Collagen Firming Mask can’t firm skin, it provides some much-needed moisture, leaving it hydrated, plumper, smoother, and brighter for hours.

I’m a big fan of My Beauty Diary masks! Some of them do make some grandiose claims such as this one, but there are some good ones out there. One of my favorites is the Apple Polyphenol Mask. I’m not entirely convinced of the benefits of the apple extract, but it’s very hydrating and contains ingredients such as licorice root extract and witch hazel, in addition to hyaluronic acid.

Lexie, I have two more of their masks and can’t wait to try them! I think, when you learn to ignore the exaggerated claims and have realistic expectations on what these masks can do, then you will be quite impressed with them.

I doubt the apple extract does anything. But if it contains hylauronic acid, it would very moisturizing indeed. 🙂

I would love to try it, although my skin is sensitive so you never know how it will react:)

Helena, I hope your skin won’t react badly to it if you try it.

Yeah, nothing can really instantly give skin a collagen boost. But it still sounds like a nice mask!

Melissa, it is. If your skin needs a pick me up, this will do the job nicely. 🙂
