Name: Lip4 in Tease
Brand: Sleek Makeup
From the press release:
Sleek Makeup launches Lip4, six indispensable lip palettes, containing four pigment-intense lip shades in one neat compact. Shades available in 3 finishes matte, gloss and satin, making it easy to create a multitude of looks. The mini applicator brush and mirror inside each palette allows no-fuss on the go lip application.
What I liked:
– contains four shades in different finishes that can be used alone or mixed together to create your own custom colours
– very pigmented
– easy to apply
– excellent staying power
– the price
What I didn’t like:
– colours feel drying on the lips
– glossy shades bleed a little
Sleek Makeup is most famous for its high-quality but affordable eyeshadow palettes. As my regular readers know, I’m a big fan of them and use them almost daily. Their lip products have never disappointed me either. So, when I found out the brand was gonna release six lip palettes, well, saying that I was excited would be an understatement.
Described as a “daily lip wardrobe in one compact palette”, each of the Lip4 palettes features 4 shades in matte, gloss and satin finishes, allowing you to create lots of different looks. You can even mix them to create your own custom shade! The palettes also contain a big mirror and a little brush to make application easier, although the latter is pretty useless. If you’re interested in these palettes, you’ll have to use your own lip brush.
I was sent two palettes: Tease and Ballet. I will show you the latter next week. Today, we’ll focus on Tease. If you’re into red lips, you’ll love the shades in this palette: Spotlight is a classic, blue-based, red with a glossy finish; Show Off, a bright coral red with a satin finish; Dita, a matte reddish fuchsia; and Paris, a glossy and bright true red.
So, is this lip palette just as good as the much-loved I-Divine palettes? Well, not really. Although I love Lip4 in Tease a lot, I don’t love it. The pigmentation is, as you would expect from Sleek Makeup, outstanding. Spotlight and Paris have by far the best colour payoff. You need the tiniest amount for each application. Dita, the matte shade, is the less pigmented, but still very easy to build up and looks bright and vivid once applied.
Staying power is exceptional too. I apply them in the morning and six hours later, they are still there, albeit faded. Even more impressive, they survived, almost unscathed, a full meal. It’s true that I didn’t eat anything too oily nor soups (I rarely do as I’m not a big fan of them), but still that’s amazing. I always complain about lip products not lasting long enough on the lips, but when I wore these, I was almost bored to see them pretty much intact whenever I caught my reflection on a glass surface lol.
So, what’s the problem with Tease? The texture. Although all the shades are creamy enough and apply smoothly on the lips, they are also quite drying. My lips are in good condition, but still I had to apply a layer of lip balm underneath. There is no way you could wear these shades without one. And you’d better hope its moisturizing properties won’t fade before the lipsticks do, because, if you’ll have to reapply it, you’ll stain the stick. Unless you use a lip brush to apply lip balm too, of course.
You’ll also have to be very careful when applying Spotlight and Paris. They have the creamiest texture and can bleed a little bit throughout the day (a problem I didn’t have with the other two shades). And any mistakes you should make during application won’t be that easy to correct, due to their intense pigmentation. But their very glossy finish is so pretty! Despite these shortcomings, I would still recommend Tease to all fans of red lips, who don’t mind having to apply lip balm with their lipsticks. You’ll get four incredibly pigmented and insanely longlasting shades at a very affordable price.
Available at: Superdrug stores throughout the UK, from 8th May
Sleek Makeup Lip4 in Tease contains four highly-pigmented red shades in different finishes. Easy to apply and incredibly longlasting, they, however, feel drying on the lips.
