Product Review: Nail Tek Quicken Top Coat

by Gio

Name: Quicken Top Coat
Brand: Nail Tek
Size: 15ml
Price: $13.99 ($9.99 on Beauty Stop Online)

From the packaging:
Nail Tek Quicken is an ultra-fast drying top coat especially formulated for natural nails. This unique formulation is specifically designed to set polish faster without sacrificing wearability. Quicken accelerates drying time, keeps polish from chipping and protects the natural nail.

What I liked:
– provides a subtle shiny finish
– helps reduce drying time somewhat
– extends the life of your manicure to a week or more
– the packaging

What I didn’t like:
– not as fast-drying as claimed
– if you want a super-shiny finish, this is not for you

I love nail polish, but I hate applying it. You see, I have no patience at all, and waiting for it to dry completely before I can start moving my hands (which I can hardly keep still for more than 5 minutes) again is really annoying. So when Beauty Stop Online offered me the chance to try Nail Tek Quicken Fast Drying Top Coat, I jumped at the chance. So did it cut nail polish drying time in half?

Not exactly. I find the name of this top coat really misleading. Instead than “Quicken” it should be called “Protective” or “Long-lasting”. Nail Tek Quicken has a gel-like texture that’s thicker than those of all the top coats I have ever tried so far, which may be why it takes a little longer than expected to dry. It took about 20-25 minutes to dry my nail polish completely, and when it did it left behind a slightly shiny finish (if a lot of shine is what you want, this is not for you).

Truth be told, at this point I was pretty disappointed. Although nice, this top coat wasn’t nearly as fast-drying or shiny as I hoped it would be. But within a few days, I fell in love. A week later, my manicure was still intact, with only minimal tip wear. I’m very hard on my nails and even with a top coat, my manicures rarely last for more than 5 days. I was thus really impressed with Quicken, although I must admit I was beginning to tire of wearing the same colour on my nails for so long, so in the end, I removed it.

But if you are less fickle than me, this top coat may make your manicure last even longer than that. Overall, I’m really pleased with Quicken. It may have disappointed my expectations in some ways, but it exceed them in others. If you’re looking for a top coat that dries your nail polishes real quick and gives them a super shiny finish, Quicken won’t satisfy you. But if, instead, you’re more interested in extending the life of your manicure to a week or more, Nail Tek Quicken is definitely worth a try.

Although Nail Tek Quicken Top Coat is not as fast-drying as claimed, it still helps reduce drying time a bit and gives nails a subtle shiny finish. But what’s really impressive is its ability to protect your manicure, making it last for a week or more.

I want my top coats to give me a super shiny finish but I mostly look for the dry down time. I can add a shiny top coat afterwards since they dry in minutes anyways. Thanks for all your hard work, Giorgia. :] Your writing is fabulous as always.

Janessa, I agree with you. You can always add a super shiny top coat later. Drying nail polishes quickly and making them last longer is more important in a top coat, and this one does the latter so well.

And you are very welcome. Thank you for your support!
