Product Review: L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald

by Gio

Name: Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald
Brand: L’Oreal
Size: 3.5g
Price: €10,90

From L’Oreal’s website:
Make a lasting impression without batting an eye. Infallible Eyeshadows contain ultra concentrated colour pigments, for an intense colour finish and up to 24 hour long-lasting hold. Immense, endless, breathtaking blue with a myriad of starry glimmers for eyes of exalted strength.

What I liked:
– soft texture, easy to apply and blend
– great colour payoff, especially when used wet
– chock-full of shimmers, sparkles beautifully
– longlasting

What I didn’t like:
– not very pigmented when used dry
– when used dry, avoid applying it with a brush or the colour won’t translate well on the lid, and will look patchy

It’s official. Emerald Green is the Pantone colour of the year, which means it’s now time to start rocking some green eyeshadows (if you haven’t already, that is). One of my favourites is L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald, which was given me by my wonderful friend and reader Janessa (thank you so much!). Golden Emerald is a stunning and super sparkling mossy green with olive undertones and is infused with golden shimmers.

From L to R: swatched with a brush; with a finger; over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.

Golden Emerald, which is perfect to create smokey looks, is one of the most sparkling eyeshadows I have ever seen. The effect is really beautiful. In fact, it’s worth getting it just for that. The texture is intriguing too: very soft to the touch, it is a cross between pressed and loose powder and is easy to blend. It comes with its little “flattener” that keeps the powder pressed. Because of this, the eyeshadow is less messy to apply. The fallout I experienced was so minimal that it didn’t bother me at all.

Colour payoff is great but sadly Golden Emerald doesn’t translate well on the lid when you apply it with a brush. As you can see from the picture above, when I swatched it with an eyeshadow brush, the colour applied not only sheer but also patchy. The pigmentation greatly improves and the patchiness disappears when you put it on with your fingers. But it’s when applied wet, or over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (a sticky base that gives eyeshadows that beautiful foiled look without the mess), that Golden Emerald really shines. The colour becomes extremely vibrant and the shimmers stand out even more.

I was also very impressed with its staying power. The first time I used it, I applied it over my bare, slightly oily, lids, expected it to turn into a creasy and ugly mess within a couple of hours, but almost six had passed before it started gathering in the folds of my eyes. And with the help of a primer, it won’t budge, crease nor fade at all for the whole day. I’m definitely getting more of these!

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald is a pigmented mossy green shade with gold shimmers that sparkles beautifully. This shade is best used wet; then it really shines. Instead, when used dry, the colour isn’t as intense and, if you apply it with a brush, it becomes sheer and patchy. However, the creamy texture is soft and easy to blend, with only minimal fallout. And it’s very longlasting too.

This color has been on my wishlist ever since it launched, you know how I love my greens 🙂 I agree with you about the application, I always apply these with a finger because I’ve had the same issue when trying to use a brush. It’s such a beautiful shade though and you’ve reminded me I really need to get around to picking it up one of these days….

Also, would love to see you do a look with this if you have time!

Makeup Morsels, it’s a shame that it doesn’t translate well when used with a brush, but the shade is so gorgeous and the performance, when applied with a finger, so amazing, that I don’t really mind much. Do pick it up, you’ll love it.

And will do. 🙂

Thanks for mentioning me again, Gio! :] You are so welcome! I need to pick up Fyrinnae pixie epoxy, it makes the eyeshadow look amazing. 😮

Janessa, you’re welcome and thank you for giving me the chance to try! 🙂

And do get the Pixie Epoxy. It’s the best beauty product ever! 🙂

I love this brand, not totally sure either way about this colour though. Emerald greens are so definitely NOT for me, but this could easily be worth a try – and at this price, it’s something that I can happily pass to my daughter if I don’t like it!

Viv, do give it a go. It’s a gorgeous shade, very sparkly and perfect for the upcoming season. 🙂
