Product Review: Hermes Jour D’Hermes Fragrance

by Gio

jour d'hermes

Name: Jour D’Hermes
Brand: Hermes
Size: 1.6 fl oz
Price: $108.00

What I liked:
– lovely sheer floral scent
– good staying power
– beautiful bottle

What I didn’t like:
– if you don’t like sheer, undefined floral fragrances, this is not for you
– the price

At first sniff, Jour D’Hermes is understated, ethereal, even simple. It has two main accords: an undefined floral bouquet and a white musky base. But as it unfolds on your skin, you realise that this scent is full of surprises. Jour D’Hermes starts with a radiant blend of tarty grapefruit and a whiff of lemon sprinkled over a green, vegetable background. As they fade away, the floral notes become more prominent.

The flowers are so well-blended together that it is really difficult to distinguish them. It feels like you’re just entered into a garden in full bloom, when your nose is hit by the scents of so many flowers that you don’t really know what you’re smelling. But you know it’s good. And if you visit it every day, sooner that you even realize it, you start to identify them one by one.

A not-too-powdery rose was the only flower I could distinctly recognize straight away. But in the following days, I started getting whiffs of sweet pea, lily of the valley, jasmine, gardenia, ylang ylang, and tuberose. But that’s all they are. Subtle whiffs that you’ll catch when you least expect it and that go away just as quickly. This generic floral accord didn’t appeal to me at first, but I fell in love with it as I learned to recognized all its numerous, different facets.

The drydown is a sheer and sensual white musk note. The whole scent is sheer, almost ethereal, and yet it stubbornly hangs onto the skin, even after it has considerably softened after a couple of hours, for about 10 hours. Radiant and uplifting, Jour D’Hermes can easily be worn on hot summer days when you need an understated, elegant scent, but also on cold winter nights to remind you of the warm season that lies ahead. Although the perfume market is saturated with sheer floral scents at the moment, Jour D’Hermes is not one that can dismissed without giving it at least a sniff.

Summary
Jour D’Hermes is a sheer floral scent with a sensual musky base. Understated and elegant, it has excellent staying power. However, it won’t appeal to those who dislike sheer scents and undefined floral accords.

I have to smell this one! :] I thought it was a pale yellowy gold nail polish bottle at first! Haha. 😀
Now my favorite lines (seriously so difficult to narrow down to a few!):

“It feels like you’re just entered into a garden in full bloom” that I’m smelling so many harmonious scents at once and I can’t distinguish every origin but with time, I do figure some out. You’re brilliant!

“on cold winter nights… of the warm season that lies ahead” :] I have began to develop a preference for certain scents for different seasons. I used to go by heavier scents for winter but I feel like heavy scents work when layered onto my clothing or mixed with a light-smelling fragrance.

Wow you’re really good at identifying the flowers, but I’m not surprised. 😀

She’s the girl with proportionate features though not stunning in her facial bone structure (sorry I like to paint people haha). She’s nothing spectacular at first glance. You have to sit down in a cafe with her and converse while sipping on iced tea everso slightly sweetened with two teaspoons of honey.
You want to meet her again and you do. Under the sunny clear sky she stands before you in a long dress made of various sheer fabrics. A muted pale yellow scarf is braided into her hair slightly tousled by wind. As you get to know her, she is different, a bit special.

Just my take on it, not really edited. I have to write a lot tonight! This is my warm up hehe.

Janessa, it does look like a nail polish bottle, doesn’t it? Only it’s much bigger. But in pictures, it can be very deceiving. 😉

Aww thank you! I’m glad you like my perfume reviews. But you write them a lot better than me. You manage to perfectly describe the kind of girl the fragrance represents. You have a beautiful way with words too. 🙂

:] Thanks, Gio! Ah! Deceiving photos are nothing new for the online shopper like me! Harhar. I REALLY like your perfume reviews and I look forward to the language you use and I could have never written that description without you establishing the fundamentals AND I wouldn’t have thought to describe fragrance in such a beautiful manner. I’m really happy and honored to have you compliment my writing because you’re an one of my idols! :]

Aww thank you! You deserve the compliment. I might have given you the basis, but you wrote the description beautifully and it’s so spot-on. Well done! 🙂
