Brand: Helena Rubinstein
What I liked:
– nice and sophisticated floral scent
– pretty bottle
What I didn’t like:
– not artsy or original
– simple scent, doesn’t evolve much
I didn’t expect to like Wanted by Helena Rubinstein but I do. I tend to go for daring scents, but Wanted is very safe; I like originality and creativity, but Wanted is so commercial; I appreciate scents full of twists and turns that suddenly take you to unexpected places, but Wanted is quite linear. Yet, it smells lovely. It’s sweet without being overly so and is mature without being old-fashioned. It’s a scent for a sophisticated but carefree woman.
The opening is quite sweet, almost gourmand, and vibrant. The magnolia and ylang ylang accord, on which the fragrance is centred, is present right from the start, although it always remains quite subtle. At the beginning this accord is laced with zesty lemony accents that make this part of the scent smell like a delicious lemon meringue. I’m not really a fan of pastry scents, but this one is well-done. It never gets overly sweet or too youthful, but retains a certain brightness and lightness.
The heart is smooth, milky and heading in a woodier direction. The creaminess of the magnolia and ylang ylan is now intertwined with dry cedar and spicy sandalwood, which adds an interesting touch to an otherwise boring blend. The scent is now more sophisticated, even sexy. Wanted doesn’t change much in the drydown. It’s still creamy and sweet, but the woods become darker, making the scent even more sensual and feminine. No new notes are present at this stage, which is a bit disappointing.
But as I said, this is not an artsy or complex fragrance. It’s a pleasant and elegant floral scent that adult women can easily wear without smelling like a teenager. And teenagers can spray it ont when they feel like wearing something sophisticated and mature without ending up smelling like their mothers. Although more suitable for winter, it can be worn all year round, for any occasion and at any time of the day and night. And it lingers on the skin from morning till night so there’s no need to touch it up as the day wears on.
If you’re not into artsy or complex fragrances, but want something simple and elegant that’s easy to wear, you may enjoy Helena Rubinstein Wanted Fragrance, a floral scent with a magnolia accord and a dark woody base. It lasts all day too.
