Name: Pour Homme
Brand: Dolce & Gabbana
What I liked:
– nice and fresh unisex scent
– if you don’t like tobacco, you’ll be happy to know that this note is very subtle here
– sleek and beautiful bottle
– good, but not excellent, staying power
What I didn’t like:
– the reformulation totally ruined the original scent, which is now mainstream and unoriginal
– some men may find it too sweet for their taste
Dolce and Gabbana didn’t just ruin their Pour Femme fragrance when they decided to reformulate it last year. Their Pour Homme scent got exactly the same treatment. Gone is the elegant citrusy tobacco concoction with a sweet and luxurious cedar/sandal/tonka drydown.. In its place we have a more traditional, toned down and bland mixture that’s not even as strong and longlasting as the original.
The new Pour Homme opens with a citrusy burst over a sweet neroli base sprinkled with pungent lavender accents. The herbal qualities of the scent become more prominent as the hours pass. Lavender is still there and is now joined by sage and pepper. The drydown has whiffs of the original accord. Tonka bean and cedar are still present, but their sweetness is not balanced by the smokiness of the tobacco anymore, which is very disappointing as it was this well-executed accord that really made many people fall in love with this scent originally.
Overall, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme has turned into a fresh, mainstream scent that’s easy to wear for pretty much any occasion. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s just a shame they had to sacrifice everything that was remarkable about it to get there. It still smells good, but its just not original. And it’s not even that masculine. It’s more unisex, and I can see it appealing more to women than men actually. And although it does last for 8 hours on the skin, if you’re going out at night you’ll have to spray it on again.
Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme is a sweet citrusy herbal scent with only the slightest whiff of tobacco. Everything that made this scent remarkable has been removed, turning Pour Homme into a mainstream, unoriginal blend that’s more unisex than masculine. Staying power is good, but if you’re going out in the evening, you’ll have to reapply it.
