What I didn’t like:

– needs to be reapplied frequently
– the price

In 2009, Dolce & Gabbana created a collection of fragrances inspired by, and named after, tarot cards. “Tarot is very common in Mediterranean countries and conveys the different aspects of people’s personalities,” said Stefano Gabbana. The designer duo chose the tarot cards with the most identifiable traits, such as the Empress (card n.3). In tarot cards, the empress, or imperatrice in Italian, is the mother, the creator, the nurturer, the goddess of abundance and the giver of earthly things.

So what does the scent she inspired smell like? Is it an opulent and rich oriental blend fit for an empress? An heady and exotic white floral fragrance that reminds us both of her power and femininity? Nothing like that. 3 L’Imperatrice smells like shampoo. The expensive kind, but still shampoo. If you ask me, this is a monumental fail, yet I can see this fresh fruity aquatic blend appeal to a lot of young women.

3 L’Imperatrice opens with a fresh burst of ripe watermelon intertwined with kiwi. There’s also a generous dose of rhubarb that prevents the watermelon from becoming too sweet. This accord, which reminds me of sorbet, is the most delicious part of the scent. The pink cyclamen and jasmine petal notes in the heart are very light and aquatic. They can barely be smelt and don’t really give any depth, nor anything else for that matter, to the fragrance. As the time passes, the fragrance becomes less and less sweet. The base is a soft blend of creamy musk and fruity grapefruit wood.

3 L’Imperatrice is a playful, light and inoffensive fragrance that’s more suitable for the summer and, like most eau de toilette, requires frequent reapplication throughout the day. The brand claims it is unisex, but I think it may be too sweet for most men, especially when first sprayed on. You may want to give your man a sample of it before buying him a full size bottle.

Dolce & Gabbana 3 L’Imperatrice Eau De Toilette is a light, fresh and inoffensive floral aquatic scent that’s most suitable for the hot summer months. However, it needs to be reapplied frequently and there’s nothing distinctive about it.

Nice review – funny, but I’m so terribly NOT into perfumes! Tend to stick to my O de Lancome, all seasons.

Viv, I’m glad that even though you’re not into perfumes, you still found one you love and that suits you. 🙂

Eek, I don’t like scents that smell like cleansers like shampoo, dish washing soap, hand soap, window spray, orange-scented toxic floor wipes, or even deodorant.
Since I do not know French, the French names always sound and look so fancy. 😛

Janessa, I agree. An expensive fragrance shouldn’t smell like a cleanser. That’s a fail imo too.
