Name: Simply Ageless Eye Concealer
Brand: CoverGirl
Size: 9g
Price: $13.99

From CoverGirl’s website:
This creamy formula covers imperfections, conceals under-eye circles, and visibly brightens skin. Like all Simply Ageless makeup, it’s made with Olay Regenerist Serum, so it stays suspended over fine lines and wrinkles, for younger, firmer-looking skin.

What I liked:
– evens out the skintone
– minimizes the appearance of pores, fines lines and wrinkles
– brightens up the skin
– natural finish
– creamy texture, glides on smoothly
– doesn’t crease on dry skin
– contains niacinamide
– more suitable for dry and mature skin types

What I didn’t like:
– available in only 4 shades
– light to medium coverage is not enough to cover bad dark circles
– its hydrating texture may crease on oilier skin types
– average staying power
– the price

CoverGirl has teamed up with Olay to create Simply Ageless, a line of age-defying makeup that promises to make your skin look flawless. All the products, which come in cute pots, are infused with the Olay Regenerist Serum to help smooth and firm skin. Being a huge fan of the Regenerist line, I was obviously really curious to try something from Simply Ageless.

My friend Janessa granted me my wish, by sending me the Eye Concealer, in Very Light, which is the lightest shade available (there are only three more to choose from). Although not a perfect match, Very Light is pale enough not to stand out too much. And when I apply foundation on top, everything’s evened out. And this is a concealer that is better applied before foundation anyway.

On its own, Simply Ageless Eye Concealer provides only light to medium coverage. That’s enough to even out the skintone, and help minimize the look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, but not to cover really bad dark circles. For that, you need extra help. Because of this, I find the concealer works best to prep your skin for foundation, helping it to achieve a flawless look. The result is very natural too.

Very Light also has slightly peachy undertones, which help brighten the eye area just a little bit. Its texture is very creamy and glides so smoothly on the skin. On me, it didn’t crease at all, but I think that’s because my under eye area is on the dry side. Its texture is quite hydrating, so if you have oily skin, it may slip into your creases and accentuate wrinkles. In that case, simply set it with powder, which will also help it last longer. Without, it disappears after 7 hours on me.

And what about Olay contribution? Well, rather than the whole serum, Olay added only its main active, Niacinamide. If you’re a regular reader of this little blog, you’ll know this is one of my favourite ingredients. Niacinamide can hydrate skin, improve its elasticity, reduce fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Although niacinamde is very beneficial, your skin needs a lot more than that to look its best. So, I’d still recommend you use a separate anti-aging serum if you want to keep premature wrinkles at bay for longer.

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Titanium Dioxide, Talc, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Isotridecyl Isononanoate, Ozokerite, Acetyl Glucosamine, Silica, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Sorbitan Isostearate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Dimethicone/Methicone Copolymer, Panthenol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Methylparaben, Methicone, Propylparaben, Stearic Acid. May Contain: Iron Oxides.

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Eye Concealer brightens up the skin and provides a light to medium coverage that evens out the skintone and minimizes the look of pores and wrinkles, but can’t conceal very bad dark circles completely. Its creamy texture makes it glide on smoothly, but may cause it to crease on oily skin. The concealer has a natural finish, but only average staying power.

Oh thank you! I was curious about this one but will pass. I don’t have a particularely oily eye area but since I use my concealer as an eye shadow base I don’t think this would work.

Icaria, you’re welcome. I don’t think this is the best concealer to use as an eyeshadow base. Its texture is too hydrating for that.

This product didn’t work for me as it just didn’t have enough pigmentation to cover under eye circles and it always looked cakey on me.

beautifulwithbrains October 7, 2013 - 7:27 pm

Monica, its pigmentation is really poor for a concealer, isn’t it? And what a shame it caked on you!

Trisha October 7, 2013 - 5:39 pm

I’m really surprised by that price. It seems a bit muck for Cover Girl…

beautifulwithbrains October 7, 2013 - 7:28 pm

Trisha, I agree about the price. If you’re interested, definitely wait for it to go on sale.

Really great review and your photos really help show that it minimized pores but wasn’t very opaque. 🙂 thank you for mentioning me! And props to you for typing out the whole igredients list because those fonts get tiny!

beautifulwithbrains October 9, 2013 - 4:29 pm

Janessa, yes coverage is quite sheer so it doesn’t cover much. You’re welcome, and thank you for sending me the concealer. I love trying new products that aren’t available here. 🙂
