bottega verde orchid body wash

Name: Orchid Body Wash
Brand: Bottega Verde
Size: 400ml
Price: €6,99

From Bottega Verde’s website:
Its silky and pleasantly scented foam adds to your bath an intense emotion that soothes your senses. The formula, enriched with orchid extract, hydrating and energizing, cleanses skin gently.

What I liked:
– cleanses skin gently but effectively
– leaves skin soft
– gentle, doesn’t irritate skin
– lovely subtle but pervasive floral scent
– often on sale

What I didn’t like:
– some people may find the retail price too high

You’d think that a body wash called Orchid would smell like orchids right? Wrong. Bottega Verde Orchid Body Wash doesn’t. The brand thus describes its delightful scent: “a floral fruity top note with lychee and red fruits leaves the stage to a heart that smells like rose, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley, and ends with a woody vanilla accord”.

My nose can’t smell all that. All it picks up is a generic, but pleasant floral scent that’s delicate but pervasive. Its envelops you into a close embrace that lasts for hours. If you like this sort of scents, bathing in it will be a very soothing and relaxing experience. What about the orchid, though, I hear you ask?

Well, this body wash contains an orchid extract (Orchis Mascula Extract) that is supposed to have hydrating and energizing properties. But I doubt it does anything in a rinse-off product like this. Body washes are for cleansing skin anyway, and this one does so gently but effectively thanks to a delicate blend of surfactants made up of Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (not to be confused with the much harsher Sodium Lauryl Sulfate).

This is a very common surfactant combination. Both ingredients are considered mild and are unlikely to irritate skin, yet they foam nicely and are able to easily remove all traces of dirt from your body. After using this body wash, my skin is left clean, soft and smells gorgeous!

Only the price could be offputting. €6,99 isn’t expensive, but it is not that cheap for a body wash either. Luckily, Bottega Verde products are very often on sale and, at the moment, you can get your hands on their Orchid Body Wash for only €2,99. So, if you’re interested, hurry up!

Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Parfum, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, DMDM Hydantoin, Orchis Mascula Extract, Sodium Methylparaben, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Benzotriazolyl Butylphenol Sulfanate, Buteth-3, Tributyl Citrate, Limonene, CI 45100, CI 42090, CI 14700.

Bottega Verde Orchid Body Wash cleanses skin gently but effectively, removing all traces of dirt and leaving it clean, soft and smelling gorgeous. The floral scent is subtle, but pervasive and lasts a few hours on the skin. The retail price can put some people off, but, luckily, Bottega Verde products are often on sale.

The scent sounds nice, but I wonder if it seems perfumey, rather than like real flowers. I hate that perfumey-ness, and that happens a lot with floral scents.

Trisha, it doesn’t smell perfumey, but not very real either. It’s more of an abstract and delicate floral scent. 🙂
