bomb cosmetics bejewelled soap

Name: Bejewelled Soap
Brand: Bomb Cosmetics
Price: £2.49

From Bomb Cosmetics’ website:
A glamorous and exquisitely scented soap with skin loving gold of pleasure essential oil to delight the senses and soften the skin.

What I liked:
– looks beautiful; it features golden shimmers that sparkle when they catch the light
– sweet fruity floral scent
– cleanses skin well
– doesn’t dry skin out when used in moderation
– leaves skin soft and clean

What I didn’t like:
– if you have dry skin, it may be too harsh for you
– its square shape makes it a bit difficult to use

Bomb Cosmetics Bejewelled Soap really looks like a beautiful, glistening gem. Lilac in colour, it has chunks of shimmering orangey gold and reddish purple soap sweeping throughout it. When they catch the light, they sparkle beautifully. The effect is so lovely that it makes you feel a bit sad at the thought of using, and thus ruining, it. Oh, and don’t worry about looking like a disco ball. The shimmers make the soap look pretty, but won’t end up on your skin.

This soap comes in slices and you’re getting a pretty big one, so it will last you for quite a bit. I don’t find its square shape too user-friendly, so whenever I want to wash myself with it, I cut only the teeny tiny slice I need. This way, the rest of the soap won’t get wet and thus will last longer and there is also a much smaller chance that bacteria will grow on it (bacteria thrive in moist environments).

But how does it cleanse skin? Pretty well, thanks to a mixture of surfactants that includes the gentle Sodium Laurate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate as well as its much harsher cousin Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). I usually stay away from products with SLS because of how irritating and drying it is (and my skin is already very dry), but in this soap this surfactant is not at the very top of the ingredient list. That, coupled with Glycerin, a humectant that moisturizes skin by drawing water from the environment into it, will mitigate its harsh effect.

I guess this is the reason why, after each use, my skin feels just a little tight, but not dry. In fact, it is still quite soft to the touch, which pleasantly surprised me. Still, to be on the safe side, I prefer to use it only once in a while. If your skin isn’t as dry as mine, you may get away with using it more often. Oh, and did I mention that it makes your skin smell gorgeous? At first the scent is quite soapy and sweet. I can distinctly smell blackcurrant and there’s also a hint of citrus.

After a while, the scent turns floral. This stage is more subtle and the flowers are all intertwined together, so it’s difficult to single out the notes, but my nose can definitely pick up freesia. The drydown is a sensual woody accord featuring musks, vanilla and sandalwood. Although I found its top notes too girly and sweet, I really like how the scent developed. I just wish it lasted all day on the skin.

Ingredients:Aqua (Water), Propylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Glycerin, Sodium Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sorbitol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium Chloride, Stearic Acid, Mica, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellol, Linalool, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 14700 (Red 4), CI 17200 (Red 33), CI 73015 (Blue 2), CI 16035 (Red 40), CI 19140 (Yellow 5).

Bomb Cosmetics Bejewelled Soap looks and sparkles like a gem. Its blend of surfactants is not too gentle, but not too harsh either, meaning that it will cleanse your skin well and leave it soft, but those with dry skin may find it too drying if used too often. Oh, and it smells lovely.
