“Gio, do you know Oud Milano? It’s an Italian makeup brand,” a friend asked.
“Emmmm, no,” I stuttered, feeling as if I had been caught red handed. There are like, 10 Italian makeup brands in Italy. How can I have missed one?!
Oh, it opened its first store in Milan in 2015. That’s the year I moved to London. I’m off the hook. Phew!
Since then, Oud Milano has become a sensation in the Middle East. Last month, it opened its first store in London, right in the middle of Oxford Street. Italy is slowly taking over the world, yay!
Of course, I HAD TO go. My friend Tavia (who’s always the first one to have the scoop on all things makeup) and I made our way to the shop to check out the line and have a makeover. Here are a few bits and bobs that came home with me:
How pretty is it? The logo imprinted on the compact is such a cute touch. Makes me want NOT to use it. I hate ruining beautiful makeup. lol
But use it I did. This eyeshadow is available in 26 shades, ranging from neutral to colourful. Once upon a time, I’d have picked a bold green or neon blue, but now that I’m getting older, I’m more than happy with 321, a warm chocolate brown infused with gold shimmers.
It’s one of those no-fuss shades you can use it anytime, anywhere. It’s sheer but buildable so you can swipe on a wash of colour for the office or pile it on for a more intense look for a night out with your girlfriends.
Its texture is not the smoothest, but it blends easily on the lids and, with the help of a primer, lasts all day.
That’s not a typo. It’s really called kohol…
I like kohls on days when I want a bit of definition. You know, something that makes my eyes stand out but that doesn’t clash against my pale skin or is too intense for daytime.
201 is the perfect shade. It’s a soft black shade with a creamy texture that glides super smoothly on the lids, coating them with one opaque line of colour.
No tugging. No pulling. No stressing over getting a straight line. It’s gentle and foolproof. Like the eyeshadow, it’ll last you all day on top of a primer.
I love chubby lip pencils. Reminds me of when I was a kid playing with crayons. Only these ones are lip safe (yep, I did use crayons on my lips once – my parents weren’t too happy, ahem).
This Lip Color is available in 8 shades. I have 302, a cool Barbie pink that’s not that flattering on my skin. I think I should have gone for a warmer shade.
Oud Milano says it has the intensity of a lipstick and the shiny finish of a gloss. They’re right on the intensity. Lip Colour is opaque in one coat. But 302 has a semi-matte finish.
Even though its texture is super creamy and smoothly, it tends to stick to any fine line and flaky patches you have. If your lips aren’t perfect to begin with, I wouldn’t go near this one.
Staying power isn’t the best either. After a couple of hours, Barbie’s left the building.
Primer Flawless Beauty
The Lip Color was the dud in the line for me. Primer Flawless Beauty’s the opposite. It’s my fave.
It’s a sheer peachy shade that helps even out the skintone and smooths out imperfections so that your foundation will have an easier time adhering to your skin and finishing the job.
But what makes it stand out are its peachy undertones. They brighten up my complexion, giving it a radiant glow.
If your skin’s already flawless, you could wear it alone to add a bit of brightness. If you have something to hide (don’t we all?), it’ll help your foundation stay put longer.
Crazy After Shower Strawberry & Cream Powder
Crazy After Shower Strawberry & Cream Powder is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been immersed in K-beauty for more than a year for one of my freelancing gigs – just saying).
It’s a sparkling loose powder for the body. When you spray it on, the glitters come out in a cloud of smoke. SO. COOL.
I don’t know how to describe it better than this but I will post a video on my Instagram account soon, so be sure to follow me on there to see it in action.
The white powder becomes invisible once you blend it in while the glitters give your body a beautiful glow. It’s a bit of a waste here in London where your skin is hidden under layers of clothing for most of the day, but if you’re craving some glow, this is it.
The scent is lovely, too. I have Strawberry & Cream. It’s soft, sweet and stays close to the skin. It’s better than way so I don’t get any cravings! lol
