The Most Hydrating Sheet Masks I’ve Ever Tried

I think I’ve found the most hydrating sheet masks on the planet.

I kid you not. These babies are so soaked in essence, when I take them off my face, there’s still enough left on my skin to cover my entire arms and some of my legs.

They’re like an all over body treatment. You put them on the face and then massage it everywhere.

Well, I guess that if you had super uber dry skin, you’ll be left with a lot less extra essence, but you get the point. It’s much easier to massage what’s left on other parts than wait for it to be absorbed into your skin. That’ll take a while.

So, what sheet masks am I talking about? MustaeV Mood Therapy Masks.

There are four of them: Cooling Anger Mask, Moisture-Lifting Pleasure Mask, Vitamin Sadness Mask and Whitening Joy Mask. The marketing copy is all about how these emotions can influence our skin and how these masks can fix them. But a sheet mask can’t really cool down anger, can it?

But it can do wonders for the skin – if it’s good. And these are. They’re Korean after all. If they get sheet masks wrong, what hope is there for the rest of us?

So, let’s put them to the test, shall we?

I had initially thought of reviewing them one by one but there really aren’t that many differences between them:

  1. They’re all made with a hypoallergenic woven microfiber that adheres really well to the skin. Even though the sheet is so completely soaked in essence, it’s very easy to apply and doesn’t slip away everywhere.
  2. They’re all loaded with sodium hyaluronate, a water-soluble form of hyaluronic acid that penetrates the skin easily. It attracts, and binds to the skin, up to 1000  times its weight in water! No wonder they’re so hydrating!
  3. They all contain a tiny bit of snail extract. It’s super moisturizing and makes skin extra soft. If you’ve always wanted to try snail mucin, this is your chance.
  4. They all feel pleasantly refreshing on my skin.
  5. They all feature the same ingredients really. Yes, some of the antioxidants and natural extracts are different for each mask, but these are present in such low amounts, they won’t really make a difference for your skin. The base’s the same and that’s what counts.

So, are there no differences at all?

Between the Cooling Anger Mask and the Moisture Lifting Mask, not really. Just buy whatever you prefer, or both if you can’t choose (that adorable packaging is so hard to resist, isn’t it?

The Vitamin Sadness Mask contains vitamin C, as you would expect from a mask with this name. But not enough to do anything for you. So, yeah, same as above. Pick the one of the three you think is cutest. Or get the set. It’s cheap, anyway.

The Whitening Joy Mask is my fave because it contains a lot more niacinamide than the other three. And niacinamide is awesome. It hydrates skin. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots. It soothes rosacea and irritations. It treats acne… It does it all.

If you’re only going to get one mask from the lot, make it this one. Even if you don’t have dark spots. The brightening properties of niacinamide don’t just reduce those. They give skin a beautiful glow too.

Although, every one of these masks will make your skin glow. They’re super uber hydrating and hydration is key to healthy skin.

When skin is dehydrated, it gets dull and flaky. It loses moisture, so it constantly feels dry and tight. It’s more prone to irritations. It emphasises wrinkles. And it sends a signal to your sebaceous glands to produce more oil to restore moisture, which isn’t a good thing if your skin is oily. Cos you can totally have oily and dehydrated skin.

Hydration fixes all these woes. It gives skin a youthful glow. It restores softness and smoothness. It helps prevent irritations. It plumps up skin so that wrinkles look smaller. And it’s a bit less oily too.

Hydration is simply something you can’t skip. I’ve learned this the hard way. Remember last year when the harsh London weather totally messed up my skin (yes, I’m still going on about it)? A hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid saved the day.

And when I did my little sheet mask experiment in September? I had to try a sheet mask a day for 30 days. It gave me the best skin of my life, ever. So, yeah, I’m a totally hydration convert. Antioxidants are all good, but if your skin ain’t properly hydrated, it’ll still look dull and rough.

And if you’re looking for hydration, you’re in the right place. As I’ve already mentioned 300 times in this review already, these sheet masks are super hydrating.

After every use, my skin is silky soft to the touch. It looks a lot smoother. And that glow! I look like I’ve just had a facial. Maybe better, cos with some facials, there’s some downtime and irritation. With these, nope. My skin just looks fresh, younger, and healthy.

I definitely must stock up on these babies for the upcoming winter. My skin will so need these when those cold winds will start sucking all the moisture out of it!

Cause you can never get enough snail slime in your beauty products. What next monkey glands in our perfumes..oh wait, been done already. The packaging for these are hilarious. I am not a super fan of some of the ingredients for these, but enjoyed the review. Thanks.

Lou, the stuff they use in cosmetics is insane, isn’t it? I’m not a big fan of how snail slime is collected, but it does work wonders for the skin. Glad you enjoyed the review.

I love a good sheetmask for hydrating skin and relaxing at home! I haven’t tried these ones – I’ll keep a look out for them at my local Asian Beauty shops!

Lexie, hope you’ve been able to find them, they’re really good. Oh and the relaxing bit is the best thing about sheet masks. 🙂

Tried these and liked them–I think the pleasure one is my favorite, but as you said, they are pretty interchangeable and not too expensive. I’m curious about whether you have tried or will be trying the Hanacure mask that I see constantly on my Facebook feed! It’s not so inexpensive, but some people seem to thing it’s amazing. Any advice on that one?

Rebecca, unfortunately I couldn’t find a full ingredient list for the Hanacure mask but it seems to have its fair of antioxidants. If you’re already using an antioxidant serum, there’s no need to spend so much for a mask.
