The Budget Eyeshadow Primer That’s Almost As Good As TFSI

Can you remember life before eyeshadow primers? Faded patches, pools of eyeshadows in the creases, beautifully blended makeup ruined after an hour (if you were lucky)… I shudder just to think about it.

Luckily, that’s all in the past. Phew! Today, eyeshadow primers are so numerous, there’s no risk of going without anymore. But, all the best ones, like my HG TFSI and first love UDPP, seem to be on the pricey side, don’t they?

Where can you turn to if you’re on a budget? Head to Milani.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer is almost as good as Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The difference is so minimal, you’ll hardly miss TFSI. If I still prefer it, it’s only because it has the most lightweight texture I’ve ever come across in a primer.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer is thicker and creamier, so you need to wait 30 seconds before you start doing your eye makeup. Apart from that, the texture doesn’t affect its performance. It works just as well as TFSI.

Just like its pricier twin, Milani Eyeshadow Primer keeps my eyeshasdows put and crease-free for the entire day. Sure, it starts to fade a little after 8 hours, but nothing major. My makeup still looks amazing. It feels so good to be able to go about your day without wondering if your eyeshadow has had a meltdown yet.

The primer intensifies the colour payoff of my eyeshadows, too. As a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll let it do the talking. I’ll just say this. This trick works better with shimmery shades. Matte hues are fussier and, even with the help of a primer (any primer), they rarely become brighter.

The finish, though, doesn’t cause problems for blending. Shimmery or matte, pearly or glittery, all eyeshadows glide smoothly on top of the silky base Milani Eyeshadow Primer creates. Blending them is a breeze.

Unfortunately, Milani is quite hard to get outside the US. If you come across it, don’t hesitate. Pick it up straight away. Unless you live in the US. Then, I guess you can wait until you’re running out of whatever primer you’re currently using.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Pros: Creamy texture blends like a dream; Makes eyeshadows last all day without creasing; Improves colour payoff of eyeshadows.

Cons: Not easily available outside the US.

Summary: Milani Eyeshadow Primer has a creamy texture that helps eyeshadows look brighter and stay put, with no creasing and only minimal fading, from morning to night.

This is the primer I’ve been using for years. It’s the very first product I apply before putting on any makeup. My eyeshadows blend do well and the color payoff is amazing. I’ve gone through several tubes and the one thing I’ve noticed is that it’s never separate on me coming out of the tube.

Tracey, it’s amazing, isn’t it? Definitely one of the best eye primers out there, both for us and our wallets.

Hi! May I ask what eyeshadow do you use for the test swatch? It looks very pretty color!
