What it is
The word ginseng can refer to 22 plants in the Araliaceae family. The most common type used in cosmetics is P. Ginseng.
What it does
Ginseng Extract can help improve the appearance of skin and fight wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen.
In addition, this extract also has antioxidant properties and can help heal wounds.
Although one study has found that Ginseng can stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells, there is also plenty of research demonstrating the anti-cancer properties of this extract. In addition, there is no proof showing that Ginseng, applied topically in the minuscule concentrations used in cosmetics, can cause cancer. However, women with breast, endometrial, and ovarian cancer, should talk to a doctor before using any products with ginseng, in particular supplements and oral treatments, just to be on the safe side.
