Know Your Ingredients: Coco-Glucoside

coco glucoside

What it is
Coco-Glucoside is a mixture of fatty alcohol from coconut and glucose that can be derived from plants or made in a lab.

What it does
Coco-Glucoside is a gentle cleansing agent: it helps water mix with oils and dirt so they can be rinsed away. It foams well and doesn’t irritate skin, which is why it is often used in baby products. It can also be used to reduce the harshness of other cleansing agents.
In addition, it helps keep the oily and watery parts of an emulsion from separating.

Side effects
Coco-Glucoside is generally considered to be safe.

This one isn’t so bad to remember! I can see why there isn’t much creativity to naming ingredients because then, it’d be impossible to remember all of them haha or even have the time to come up with better names.
I really like the ingredients posts.

Janessa, I hadn’t though of that. Yes, it wouldn’t be good if the names were too creative, but maybe if they were just a bit less scientific more people would remember them lol.

And I’m glad you do. 🙂
