Washing your hair can seem like a very easy task, but not everyone does it right. I certainly didn’t when I was younger. I was guilty of using way too much shampoo to wash my hair, which caused it to become dry, itchy and flaky. Not to mention, rinsing it out was a real pain!
But now I know better. I only use a small quantity of shampoo and my hair feels and looks much better and my wallet is happier too as I don’t have to buy shampoo as often as I used to.
So, even though I’m sure most of you know how to wash your hair properly, I thought I’d put together this little guide for those of you who don’t know or aren’t sure they’re doing it right :
Step 1: first, wet your scalp with lukewarm water.
Step 2: apply only a very small amount of shampoo (about a quarter of a palm) on your palm and rub your hands together to distribute it evenly.
Step 3: rub the shampoo with your fingertips (never use your nails!) on your scalp and massage gently. Rinse it off completely working your fingertips through your hair while doing so.
Step 4: if your hair is very oily, or you have a lot of product build up, repeating steps 2 and 3 may be necessary.
Step 5: shampoos can strip moisture off your hair so using a conditioner afterwards is essential to restore it. Pour some on your palm and rub your hands together, just like you did with the shampoo. Now, apply it evenly and thoroughly your hair.
Step 6: rinse off with lukewarm water and pat your hair dry with a towel.
