How To Make Tweezing Your Eyebrows Less Painful

by Gio

I have a confession to make. I don’t tweeze my eyebrows as much or as often as I should. The reason? Plucking is painful. I think my eyebrows have a nice natural shape (at least I like it) and most of the stray hairs can hardly be seen in real life anyway. It’s only when I take macro photos of my eyes that they look huge and I’m tempted to reach for the tweezers straight away lol.

And I would, if I didn’t remember how much that hurts. Ok, it’s not the most painful thing in the world, but I’m a wimp when it comes to tolerate pain. So, I’ve been looking for a way to make tweezing less painful and I think I’ve found it. Ice. Yep, just take some ice and rub it all over the eyebrow area. This will numb it so when you tweeze it will hurt less.

It is so simple that I really can’t believe why I didn’t think of it before. Another thing that helps minimize the pain is to grab the hair as close to the root as possible and pull in the direction it grows. Don’t just pull in any direction or the hair will be harder to remove and you’ll just inflict unnecessary pain on yourself.

Now, I don’t really have any excuses anymore not to tweeze my eyebrows regularly.

What about you? Do you tweeze your eyebrows? And how do you deal with the pain?

I have a higher threshold for pain so it’s not painful when I do it myself (and I do it regularly, so it’s just a hair here or there), but…
God, does it hurt when somebody else does it for me!

I think I had them done professionally maybe 5 times in my life because of that.
Plus, I like my natural eyebrow and the pros always want to thin them out way beyond my comfort zone.

Ana, that’s so true. It hurts even more when it is someone else that does it for you which is why I never let anyone else come anywhere near my brows. It hurts me enough when I do it myself lol. And I agree that the pros have a tendency to thin them out too much.

I tweeze my eyebrows regularly, but I never felt any pain. But the ice trick can be useful for other areas, so thank you Gio!

beautifulwithbrains July 27, 2012 - 7:56 pm

La Bisbetica, I guess I’m just not used to the pain as I tend to avoid it as much as possible. If I tweezed them more often, maybe I’d feel it less. But the ice really helps a lot.

I do tweeze my brows but it doesn’t hurt much for me. But if my skin does get irritated, I like to put a cooling gel or gel moisturizer on it :]

beautifulwithbrains July 29, 2012 - 6:12 pm

Janessa, I’m glad it doesn’t hurt much for you. I guess I’m just a big wimp hehe. I apply a gel moisturizer on irritated skin sometimes and it helps a lot, I agree.

Definitely going to remember this one! Tweezing my brows usually doesn’t hurt too much but sometimes when I go a long time without touching up my brows, it can. So I will definitely break out the ice cubes next time 🙂

beautifulwithbrains July 29, 2012 - 7:38 pm

Makeup Morsels, maybe that’s why it hurts me when I tweeze my brows, because I don’t do often enough. The ice helps a lot though. 🙂

i don’t tweeze my brows too as i can’t stand the pain >< had tried ice before and it really worked! but i had the trouble of getting the ice… so if i have to tweeze now, i will apply some talc on the area and the pain is less intense too

beautifulwithbrains July 29, 2012 - 7:39 pm

Xin, I’m sorry it hurts you too. It makes you never want to tweeze your eyebrows, doesn’t it? The ice works fine for me but should I have trouble getting it, I’ll definitely try the talc tip, thanks for sharing.

I get my brows waxed, so I don’t tend to tweeze.

beautifulwithbrains July 29, 2012 - 7:41 pm

Phyrra, waxing scares more than tweezing, it must be painful. But I guess you get used to it after a while and you also don’t have to do it so often. 🙂
