How To Apply Fake Tan On Your Face

apply fake tan on face

I now love my pasty white skin, but it wasn’t always like this. There were times when I would have loved a nice, sunkissed tan all year round. Some of you may still do. The safest way to achieve that is to use a self-tanner.

Yet, applying it on the face can be quite daunting. If you make any mistakes, and end up with a streaky or patchy face, everyone will notice! So, here are a few tips for an even, streak-free application:

1. Exfoliate
Start by exfoliating your face with a peel or a scrub. This will remove all the dead cells that are accumulating on the top of your skin, providing an even and smooth surface that will allow the fake tan to go on without looking patchy.

2. Lightly moisturize
To avoid streaks, apply a lightweight oil-free moisturizer on the drier areas of your face.

3. Choose the right shade
Pick a shade that is slightly lighter than the rest of your body. The skin on your body is a bit different than that on your face, so if you apply the exact shade all over, you will just look fake and unnatural.

4. Now, apply!
With clean hands, apply a small amount of self-tanner on the chin, the apples of your cheeks, your forehead and the tip of your nose. Then, blend outwards (but avoid the eye area). Make sure everything is blended evenly. For best results, use a gradual self-tanner.

5. Wash your hands
After application, wash your hands immediately to prevent them from becoming too dark and tanned too.

Oh man, I’m always so afraid of putting self-tanner on my face. I don’t want to screw it up! But maybe if I tried these tips it would work out.

Trisha, applying sunless tanner on your face can very daunting, can’t it? But if you exfoliate your face well to remove clumps of dead cells and choose a shade that’s not too dark, you should be fine. 🙂

I’ve heard that if you’re unsure about using the right one, or wondering if it’s too dark, you can mix in some moisturising lotion and build up with fewer streaks… but I haven’t tried it myself.

BebeTaian, I’ve never tried that, but it makes sense. It’s a great tip, thanks for sharing.
