What would you like to find under your Christmas tree this year?
Me, a black pair of flat suede boots, Jensen Ackles and Alexander Skarsgard wrapped in nothing but a bow, and the House of Roger And Gallet (£25.00).
I first set eyes on this beauty at the Omniya event organized by the lovely Hayley of London Beauty Queen, and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. How could you not be too? The box is shaped like a palace. And, like all palaces, it’s full of treasures inside.
The House of Roger And Gallet contains Fleur d’Osmanthus Uplifting Fresh Shower Gel, Gingembre Rouge Energising Sorbet Body Lotion, Créme Sublime Hands & Nail Cream, and Fleur de Figuier Eau Fraiche Fragrance. Can you think of a more luxurious, perfect introduction to the brand? Me neither.
So, let’s take a closer look at each of the gems inside, shall we?
Fleur d’Osmanthus Fresh Shower Gel is an invigorating treat for the skin. Its gentle formula produces a light leather that cleanses skin, leaving it both clean and soft.
It’s free of the usual cleansing suspects, such as sodium lauryl sulfate or its close cousin sodium laureth sulfate. Instead, it uses a mix of coco-betaine, disodium cocoyl glutamate, and sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate, which are considered to be very mild surfactants. What does this mean? Even those of you with sensitive skin can use it without fear. It won’t irritate you.
The smell is lovely. If you like citrusy scents. If not, what’s wrong with you? I’m serious. I’m a sucker for anything citrusy, so of course I’m in love with this. The zesty, refreshing aroma of citrus fruits dominates the entire composition, while the quieter, subtler scent of the osmanthus flower only makes a brief appearance. But, who cares about it? Citrus is what we really crave, ladies, isn’t it?
The Lait Sorbet Corps Dynamisant Gingembre Rouge is my least fave of the lot, which sucks because it comes in a bright pink tube. How can you not like something that comes in pink? *sighs*
Ok, I do like it. Just not for me. What’s the problem? The scent. It’s very fruity and sweety, which is just the type of smell I can’t stand. At least, the zesty ginger note adds a spicy touch to the composition, preventing it from smelling too teeny bopper. Too bad I don’t like ginger all that much. If you do, though, you’ll love this.
The lightweight, almost whipped texture spreads easily on the skin and absorbs in seconds, and is surprisingly moisturizing enough for my uber-parched skin. I was sure I’d have to reapply it after just 3 or 4 hours, but nope.
The Lait Sorbet keeps my skin soft and smooth for almost the entire day. I thank glycerin, a humectant that attracts water from the environemnt into the skin, and olive oil, which binds moisture in, for that.
This combination is very moisturizing (although not as much as my beloved body butters, of course). I love the formula so much I’m now thinking of getting another Lait Sorbet, but one with a, for me, more pleasant scent. I’m pretty sure they have one with citrus…
The Creme Sublime Bois D’Orange Hand & Nail SPF 15 is, on the other hand, my fave of the lot. The scent alone is amazing. The sparkliness of oranges, the bitterness of the orange tree leaves, the freshness of just cut woods… I’m transported to an orange orchard every time I wear it.
The texture of the cream is on the thick side, but it absorbs quickly and, mostly importantly, doesn’t leave any greasiness behind. Thanks to glycerin, which attracts and binds water into my skin, it keeps my hands soft and hydrated for hours on end.
It also prevents my hands from becoming all chapped, and keeps them protected from UV rays. The mix of avobenzone, octocrylene, and ethylhexyl salicylate also provides broad spectrum protection, keeping our mittens safe and soft all year round. What more could we ask from a hand cream?
Fleur De Figuier is one of those scents that makes a bad first impression, but later conquers you with its lovely charm.
The first accord, a blend of grapefuit, mandarin, and caraway (often used to replace bergamot), is more fruity sweet than sparkling citrusy. You know how much I love my citrus fruits by now, so you can imagine how disappointing this opening was for me.
But, 10 minutes later, Fleur De Figuier and I got over our differences, and started getting along just fine. The heart has a green vibe to it. The figs aren’t ripe yet, and they’re surrounded by a dozen of slightly bitter fig leaves and blossoming fig flowers that create a gorgeous, sweet and lush bouquet.
The base is made up of cedarwood soaked in fig milk. Creamy and sensual, it’s joined by a sultry white musk note. It’s Francis Kurkdjian’s signature, and adds a lovely, musky touch to the composition.
My only complaint is that it lasts only about six hours on the skin. *sighs* But, sillage is good. Fleur De Figuier is by no means a loud fragrance, but it’s not so subtle you’re left wondering if you forgot to spritz on fragrance in the morning.
The House Of Roger And Gallet would make a great present for just about anyone. Including yourself. You can even keep the box, and use the products as stocking stuffers for four friends. That way, everyone’s happy. 🙂
If, instead, you’re in the mood for a Christmas cracker, Roger and Gallet has got you covered as well. They have released three.
Each one of them hoses a beauty duo: a best-selling Hand & Nail Cream (Fleur de Figuier, Fleur d’Osmanthus, and Creme Sublime) and a handbag sized scent to keep you beautifully scented throughout the Christmas season.
Mine contained the Creme Sublime, which is available in the House of Roger and Gallet as well, so I won’t say anything more about it. As for the handbag sized scent, it was missing from my press sample, so I can’t say anything about it. 🙁
But I’m sure the crackers on sale contain both, so don’t let this put you off. These crackers would make some amazing sticking stuffers. Or tree ornaments. Or table settings. They’re so cute, they can be used to decorate pretty much anything!
