“Shake things up, girl!”
That’s what I tell myself before every haircut. That’s why I spend countless hours googling cool haircuts on the interwebs looking for that perfect one that’ll suit my face and make me stand out in a crowd.
“Found it!” I finally think when I come across the photo of a purple-haired woman with long and wavy locks on one side and a short pixie cut on the other. Such a cool look, isn’t it?
I confidently make my way to the salon, sit down in the chair, and…
Ask for my signature haircut! You know, the bob I’ve always worn since I was old enough to make my wishes heard at the hairdresser’s (sorry, mom!). Isn’t it funny how we always fall back in the cozy comfort of habit?
In my defense, this time there was a twist. I didn’t ask for a classic bob. Nope, this time I asked for a layered bob. See, I’m being adventurous!
Ok, maybe not. But it’s the do that suits me best. All hairstylists agree, including Amy. She’s the lovely lady who transformed my overgrown and shapeless tresses into this gorgeous and voluminous bob.
I was introduced to Amy the second I set foot in the bustling Hari’s salon in Brompton Road, and immediately we started chatting about what I wanted to do with my hair. Cut it short and amp up the volume I notch or two is what I asked before I was ushered off to the basins to get my hair washed and receive a soothing head massage.
I’m not exaggerating when I say I’d gladly have my hair cut every single day if it meant getting a soothing head massage every time. It just feels so soothing and relaxing, doesn’t it? This is by far the best part of any trip to the hairdresser’s for me. And it’s over all too soon.
Before I knew it, I was back in the mirror station. Before Amy started performing her magic on my hair, she asked me if I wanted anything to drink. At the back of the salon and in full view of the punters, there’s a full-on bar, which helps create the perfect party atmosphere Hari’s known for.
Ok, at this point I’m actually getting my hair cut. With the help of a trainee assistant, dressed like everyone else there in sleek black from head to toe, Amy cut off my locks and shaped them into a layered bob in no time.
And no, she didn’t rush through the appointment. I guess, when you know what you’re doing, you don’t need a lot of time to do it well (but then, why does it take me so long to write blog posts, hmmm?).
The whole thing took less than an hour, which was perfect for me. I scheduled the cut between two business meetings and I was able to meet my next client on time, looking like a million dollars, and feeling more relaxed and confident because of it. It’s amazing what a good haircut can do, isn’t it?
Next time I visit Hari’s, I’ll take Amy’s advice and go for some highlights too. And back I’ll definitely be. Everyone at the salon is so friendly and professional. They’re not just good with hair, but they pamper you from the head to foot, making sure you’re comfortable and relaxed throughout the appointment. That’s what makes for a truly memorable experience.
Price & Availability: Prices for a cut & blowdry start at £60 at Hari’s Salon in 305 Brompton Road. The salon also has branches in Kings Road and Parsons Green.
