Let’s Make Eyes: A Review Of Eyeko Eye Makeup Range

Eyeko Eye Makeup range

I still remember the old days when Eyeko was a cutesy, pink-packaged makeup brand with an anime look and multitasking products (anyone else missing the tinted Fat Balm?).

Fast forward a few years and Eyeko is all grown up. Gone is the adorable pink packaging. Now, the black and blue tubes and pens have a sleek feel that appeals to a wider audience. As much as I loved the cute factor, I’d probably have left Eyeko behind if it hadn’t grown with me.

In another bold move, Eyeko realised where its strength lies and decided to focus entirely on the eyes. From waterproof eyeshadows to tinted brow gels and multitasking brushes, the line features everything you need to define and highlight your peepers.

Let’s take a closer look at the range, shall we?

Me & My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liner

Me & My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liner is available in 6 shades, but I’ve only played with 3 so far:

  • Bronze: a glimmery golden brown
  • Charcoal: a smokey grey black
  • Quartz: a rose gold

Quartz is my fave (and nope, not just because it’s pink). I can simply swipe it on on my bare lid, blend out the edges and I’m good to go.

Charcoal, on the other hand, is the one I can’t get to work. It doesn’t matter if I apply it on bare lid or over a primer, it ALWAYS creases!

Bronze falls somewhere in the middle. It works ok on its own but it lasts longer over a primer.

What they have in common? A creamy texture that makes them glide smoothly on the lids and good colour payoff. I don’t have to apply 10 layers to get them to show up (phew!)

I apply them with my fingers, but you can use a brush, too. Eyeko made it easier for you by hiding a blending brush into the bottom end of the pen. It’s good in a pinch, but a little too stiff maybe. If you have it around, stick to your fave eyeshadow brush.

Just be quick! Once they settle, they won’t budge.

eyeko skinny liquid eyeliner

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

Either brands are finally starting to make easy-to-flick-on eyeliners or I’m getting better at applying them (somehow I lean towards the first one…).

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner is one of those few liquid pen eyeliners even a clumsy newbie like me can use to create thin, thick and winged (straight!) lines.

The skinny, stiff-but-not-hard tip glides smoothly on the lips, allowing for a precise application on the first try (like, when that does that ever happen?!).

The colour is a deep ink black that beautifully defines the eyes. I prefer a softer brown eyeliner for the day, but this one is perfect for evening events.

Best of all, it doesn’t smudge, fade or travel all over my lid. I can flick it on in the morning and never think about it for the rest of the day. Now, if all eyeliners were like this.

eyeko lash alert mascara

Lash Alert! Mascara

I’m very pick with mascaras. I crave something that gives me so-voluminous-to-seem-fake lashes without any smudging.

Lash Alert! doesn’t deliver that – but it comes close. It easily separates and beautifully defines the lashes while adding a nice bit of volume, too. It’s one of those daytime mascaras that give your lashes that extra oomph – but in a very natural way.

The wand is slightly curved, which is just how I like it. I think curved wands help give your lashes a slight curl. Of course, if you want a perfect curl, use a lash curler. I’m just saying the wand gives it a helping hand. Plus, it reaches all my lashes, even the tiniest ones.

The dark black colour makes the lashes stand out and doesn’t smudge all over the place. I’ve used mascaras that turned me into a raccoon within a few hours, but this one seems to withstand the heat wave that has engulfed London (yes, we have summer here, too!!) well.

Oh, and how cute is the tube packaging?

eyeko brow gel

Brow Gel Style & Define

Brow Gel Style & Define styles and defines eyebrows alright, but don’t count on it to give them any shape. The only shade available is a sheer brown that only provides the tiniest hint of colour. Not enough to turn sparse eyebrows into Cara Delavignesque brows.

That’s cool. I guess you can use your fave brow pencils or powders for that. I use my Kiss Beautiful Brow Kit to fill in any empty areas and then apply the brow gel on top.

It sets the powder in place, slightly thickens the brows and tames any unruly strands of hair, giving my eyebrows a polished, natural look that lasts for hours (it’s waterproof!).

eyeko 3 in 1 brush

3-In-1 Brush

I’m never gonna travel anywhere without this 3-in-1 Brush every again. This clever little thingie hides within 3 eye brushes: a liner brush that smartly appears from the retractable end of the pen, a capped definer brish and a flat blender brush tucked away in the middle.

The liner brush has soft but stiff bristles that glide easily on the lids, leaving a defined line of colour in its wake. You can easily create both thin and thick lines with it.

The Definer Brush has a pointed tip to contour, blend and shade eyeshadows. I use it mostly to apply darker hues on my outer V and shade pencil eyeliners for a smokier look. The bristles are soft and don’t scratch skin.

The flat blender brush helps to blend colour on the lid and crease. But, I use it to apply colour on the lid, as well. It’s quite stiff but not scratchy. I think it works better with creams but you can use it with powders, too.

The best part? All the brushes are cleverly tucked inside so they don’t get dirty.

If you can only get one product, make it this one. It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of eye makeup brushes – whenever you have an eye makeup emergency, it’ll quickly save the day.

The Bottom Line

The 3-in-1 Brush is genius. The Lash Alert! Mascara and Skinny Liquid Eyeliner beautifully define your eyes for an intense, feline gaze. The Brow Gel is a very nice addition to any makeup kit. The Me & My Shadow Waterproof Shadow Liner are hit and miss. Me loves some Quartz, but I’d leave Charcoal on the shelf.

I was interested to read this! I have the charcoal me and my shadow, I was swung by the fact Alexa Chung apparently used it. I however couldn’t get it to work well on me. I found the colour a bit flat, so it didn’t look good laid on in a sheer way, but too much of it led to panda eyes. Not for me. The quartz looks lovely on you though! x

Porcelina, the charcoal shade is a mess, isn’t it? The other shades in the line are much better. Quartz is my go-to when I only have 5 mins to get ready. 🙂
