DIY Beauty: How To Make Your Own Tinted Brow Gel

how to make your own tinted eyebrow gel tutorial

Is it me or tinted eyebrow gels are so fake?

Like, every time I try one, it looks like my 5 year old cousin has drawn two curved lines on my forehead. Not exactly the look I’m going for.

Maybe it’s because I’m so pale. Makeup is SO pigmented these days and that’s not something I can always pull off. But even if you can, why splurge on a tinted eyebrow gel when you can make your own? Here’s how:

How To Make Your Own Tinted Eyebrow Gel

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • A clear mascara gel
  • A matte eyeshadow that matches the colour of your eyebrows

Top Tips:

  • Slightly shimmery shades work too.
  • Avoid frosty eyeshadows – they just look unnatural.
  • Loose eyeshadows are easier to work with.
  • Unless you have red hair, stay away from eyeshadows with red undertones – they don’t look natural on most people.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Smash the eyeshadow into lots of tiny little pieces. You can also scrap a little bit of eyeshadow with a small razor blade. Skip this step if you’re using a loose eyeshadow.
  2. Add the eyeshadow into the clear mascara gel tube and mix well.
  3. Keep adding eyeshadow until you get the desired shade.

Ooh, this is a good idea! I don’t use tinted brow gel but I did have a clear mascara that I doubled as a brow gel as well 🙂

Dao, I find that clear mascaras work so well as brow gels. And if you ever need a tinted one, you just have to add a little bit of eyeshadow and voila, your own is ready. 🙂

I made My own brow gel with a new tube of Cover Girl mascara that’s clear mixed with a bit of MAC eyeshadow in the color “bark”, and I’m utterly thrilled it worked! I told my husband I just saved him twenty bucks! The shade gel I created is exactly the same as the discontinued (grrr-still mad a Maybelline for this) twin brow/eye pencils (the red ones that have been around forever) in charcoal grey, which was the greatest color ever.
Thank you so much for posting the instructions. I’m so happy with it!

Mrs Sternberg, it’s really annoying when companies discontinue our favourite products but I’m glad you managed to make a dupe for it. That’s great. And I’m sure your husband is really happy about the money saved too.
You’re welcome. 🙂
