I have been using an eye serum by Skin Youth that has CA – 15 Alkyl Benzoate as the main ingredient Two days ago, I woke up the skin around my eyes, upper and lower feeling burned an extremely swollen.

Sondra, oh no, that’s awful! Are you sure CA 12– 15 Alkyl Benzoate is the culprit, though? In any case, I hope you’ll get better soon.

I think C12-15 does the same with me. I have discontinued products and condition went away. Then when I used again, came right back. Product returned.

Jo, sorry to hear that. But at least you know what the culprit is now and can avoid it.

Do you have any insight as to why Whole Foods would put this ingredient on their unacceptable ingredients list for premium body care products?

John, I’ve just had a look at that list and am totally confused. Most of the things in there are perfectly safe and acceptable. My guess is that they know their customers object to anything that remotely sounds like a chemical, whether it’s good or not. So many people don’t want to use something they can’t pronounce, even if it’s safe.
