Can You Drink Your Way To Firmer Skin?

Hair. Skin. Nails. Joints. Your body uses collagen for EVERYTHING.

But as soon as you turn 21, it starts to slacken on the job and produces less and less every year. It happens so subtly, you don’t even notice at first.

By the time you hit 40, the lack of collagen becomes obvious. Your skin is wrinkling. Your pores are getting larger. Everything isn’t as firm as it used to.

You need to add that collagen back into your skin pronto but… HOW?

You know collagen in creams doesn’t work. It’s too big to penetrate and do you any good.

Injections work but… they’re so expensive. And what if you’re terrified of needles (or is that just me?)?

Will drinking it work? I’ve been testing Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid for the past month to find out:

Key Ingredients In Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid contains hydrolysed collagen, ie collagen that’s been chopped down into tiny little pieces.

Your body breaks down collagen anyway. It’s like when you eat spaghetti. They don’t reach your intestine whole. Your body chops them down into its individual nutrients.

The same happens when you drink collagen. Your body breaks it down into amino acids, the building blocks of proteins (FYI, collagen is a protein 😉 ).

Your body then takes these amino acids and uses them for whatever it needs at the time. It may use them to boost bone health and decrease joint pain, strengthen brittle nails or firm skin.

Some of that collagen will go to your joints. Some will go to your nails. And yep, a little finds its way into your skin as well.

A 2014 study confirms this. Women who took a supplement with collagen peptides reported an increase in skin’s firmness and hydration – unlike those who used the placebo.

The takeaway: you may drink collagen to get rid of your wrinkles but your body doesn’t know that. It’ll use that collagen for whatever it needs (firming skin included).

Let’s Put It To The Test: Personal Use & Opinion

Red in colour, Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid contains a mix of fruit juices that give it colour, sweet taste and added vitamins. But not fibres – all the juices are from concentrate.

So what are these juices? Orange. Apple. Mandarin. Guava. Papaya. Lime. Mango. Pineapple. Grape. All together – and undiluted – they make the liquid taste like the cherry cough syrup my mom gave me when I was a child.

It tastes ok, but Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid is even better – and a little sweeter – if you dilute it. Whatever you do, don’t exceed 25ml daily.

Oh, it goes without saying – but I’ll say it anyway – that you shouldn’t use this supplement as a substitute for a varied diet.

If you’re already eating your rainbow, proteins and healthy fats, you don’t need this. If you’re still in your early 20s or younger and your skin still has plenty of collagen, you don’t need this, either.

But if you’re struggling to get enough collagen in your diet, that’s when adding  Ailixir Hair, Skin, Nails, Joints Collagen Liquid to your day makes sense.

Does it work? Yes and no. Remember when I told you the body uses collagen for whatever it needs? It’s unrealistic to think that all of it will go to your skin or hair.

Some of it did go there. Lately, my skin is feeling softer and suppler. Stronger even. I feel its protective barrier is tougher so the winter cold isn’t doing as much damage as it usually would.

Did it get rid of my fine lines? I saw only a teeny tiny improvement there. Not enough to notice unless you carefully scrutinise your skin every day. But then even the few studies on collagen saw an increase in skin elasticity AFTER 2 months.

It’s like exercise – you need to make it a regular habit to get the results you crave.
