1. Choose hair products suitable for both your hair type and scalp
Just like our skin needs products formulated for its skin type to be healthy and in good condition, so does our hair. And while most people rightly purchase products targeted for their specific hair type, they often forget to consider what their scalp needs. Some people for instance have oily hair and a dry scalp and, if they use a shampoo that’s too harsh on the scalp, they’ll dry it out even more and worsen the problem. Only once you have determined both your hair and scalp types you can better choose what hair products best suit your needs and will keep your hair in perfect condition.
2. Wash your hair regularly (but not too often)
It goes without saying that washing hair regular is important to remove all traces of dirt, product build-up and excess oil, keeping our hair clean and looking its best. Always use warm (not hot) water to wash your hair and make sure you rinse everything out well. In addition, avoiding washing hair too often as you risk stripping off too much natural oil resulting in dry and brittle hair. If you really must wash hair daily, use a gentle shampoo and condition hair well afterwards.
3. Don’t blow-dry your hair completely
I know, this is a hard one to do. We know that the heat from the blow dryer (and other styling tools) is bad for our hair as it removes too much moisture, resulting, once again, in dry and brittle hair. While the best thing would be to let hair air dry, that’s not always possible, especially now in winter so, remember to keep the blow-dryer on a low set and not too close to your head. Also, if you can, don’t dry it completely but stop when your hair is a little damp and then, let it air dry.
4. Follow a healthy diet
When we eat a healthy and balanced diet rich of vitamins, proteins and minerals, our health improves, we feel fine and strong and even our skin and hair look their best. Chicken, turkey and salmon contain proteins, fish has Omega-3, vegetable and fruits are rich in Vitamins for example. There is only so much hair products can do if we don’t take care of our health. Sure, supplements can help, but it’s always best to get nutrients from food.
