4 Beautiful Uses For Your Old Toothbrush

by Gio

We all use a toothbrush daily to keep our teeth healthy and white. But when, after a few months of use, it becomes too old and ruined to clean our pearly whites well, don’t discard it. An old toothbrush can still be useful. Here are 4 beauty related ways on how to put it to good use:

1. Exfoliate your lips

One of the most common and known ways to put an old tootbrush to good use is by using it to exfoliate lips. Simply brush the toothbrush on your lips to remove the dead skin cells on the surface. You may also use the toothbrush to rub vaseline or a mixture of olive oil, honey and sugar. The results? Soft and smooth lips that are ready to be kissed. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Exfoliate your elbows and knees. And anywhere else?

The skin on our elbows and knees is thicker and rougher and so needs to be exfoliated regularly to be kept soft and smooth. Using a toothbrush on those areas is a great and inexpensive way to do that. In theory, you could use a toothbrush to scrub the skin all over your body, face included, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that. On some areas like the face, our skin is more delicate and needs to be treated with proper care. If you still wanna exfoliate those parts with a toothbrush, use a very old one with very soft bristles or you might end up doing more harm than good.

3. Groom your eyebrows

Do you have unruly eyebrows? You don’t have to spend money on eyebrow brushes to tame them, your old toothbrush will work just as well. Simply put some vaseline on it (some people prefer using hair spray instead) and comb your brows back into place.

4. Clean your hair brushes

Just like your makeup brushes, your hair brushes need to be cleaned frequently otherwise the gunk in them will be transferred onto your hair whenever you brush it and comb it. And you don’t want that, right? Wash your combs and brushes with shampoos and then brush them with a toothbrush to remove all the traces of dirt that could still be left on them.

Do you know any other beauty-related things you can do with an old toothbrush?

Great ideas! Especially 1 and 3. I’d say I use toothbrushes for those the most.

beautifulwithbrains September 2, 2010 - 6:08 pm

Trisha, those are the ones I do more often too. ๐Ÿ™‚

I also use one for cleaning my lash comb (metal comb with needle-like teeth, scary but effective!! but you have to clean it after every use, or you’ll end up transferring old mascara clumps to your lashes instead of removing them…)

Fuzzyleo, that’s a great way to use a toothbrush! I have a plastic lash comb but never use it because it’s not good. I’m too scared to buy a metal one cos I know I’m gonna scratch my eye with it or something lol. But a toothbrush would be ideal to clean it, thanks for the tip. ๐Ÿ™‚

don’t be scared and try it, there is no comparison with the plastic ones! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Sephora has a very good metal comb + eyebrow brush in its professional line.

Fuzzyleo, I heard they are much better but I’m just so clumsy! But I will check it out next time I’m at Sephora. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anna September 3, 2010 - 10:53 am

Ciao Gio! Number 4 is a great idea, never thought of it! Especially if I use my son’s small toothbrushes (they’re the soft kind, so he needs to change one every couple of weeks almost!!!) Usually I use mine for the lips…or for beauty-un-related stuff (=clean the bathroom’s nooks and crannies!) xx

beautifulwithbrains September 3, 2010 - 3:57 pm

Ciao Anna! I use toothbrush to clean pretty much all those small spots that are so had to reach. They’re so handy eheh. ๐Ÿ™‚
